Sitting down the cup of coffee, Dean turned a rather dead expression on his brother,”You know exactly what I’m talking about Sam.”He spat back, his lips twisting as though he were tasting something disgusting,”You act like I planned this with Odessa, I didn’t…but you’re bitter about it all the same…why can’t I just be happy?”He questioned, before pausing and shaking his head,”No, that’s unfair…you know what…you’re allowed to feel the way you do, it’s been us for a long damn time…but it’s not anymore, Sam, and it’s not going back either.”

Sam stared at his brother with wide brown eyes and a tightened jaw that betrayed how upset he was as he gritted his teeth and made his jaw throb. This whole mess with Dean and Odessa was getting out of hand. The girl was here for a job. A single job. Stopping a major demon. That was all she was here for. But Dean was making this a larger project. He didn’t ready her for fighting Asmodeus, he was training her for being a hunter as a general whole. Dean was getting wrapped up in this girl and Sam didn’t think it was smart. This wasn’t a good idea but Dean was so blind to what was happening. How dangerous it was. “Why can’t it go back? Huh? You know how dangerous this life is an yet you’re trying to bring this girl into it. She’s only here to do one job and then she can go home. Why not give her that freedom? Why hang onto her?”

What’s an important lesson your muse has learned over the past few years and how has that changed the way they live?

An important lesson that Sam has learned over the past few years is that his fate is inescapable. He still tries to fight it but it is becoming more and more clear that he cannot leave the life he is living. Dean needs him too much and, in ways, Sam needs him right back. This mindset had caused him to become slightly more aggressive and more willing to do terrible things to get his way. It tears him up inside but there is no way out of this. 

      3.Does your muse focus mainly on one long term goal or multiple short term ones? What do they think about the reach-ability of their goals and what are they?

Sam use to think about the long term goals. Get this shit done with Dean, get back to college and live your life. But the idea of going back to college is now null and void and no longer a dream. Now Sam focuses on short term ideas, like staying alive to the next day because that seems a lot more reachable than anything else he has.

      7.What does your muse get out of relationships (be it friends, family or a significant other)? Do they find it energizing or exhausting to keep up with?

It depends on who you’re talking about. Sam finds Dean to be exhausting to keep up with because his brother reminds him that there is no way out of what they’re doing and how they live. While he loves his brother to the ends of the earth, he is the thing that brought him back into the darkness when Sam was very nearly free. Most anyone Sam finds to be slightly exhausting on some sort of level because he worries dearly about their safety.

      9.What does your muse think of time/aging? Does getting older scare them? (Alternatively, for immortal muses: How does their immortality effect their relationships with mortals?)

Sam doesn’t think about aging. He feels lucky to make it to the next day. He holds no hope he’ll make it to old age. He barely feels like he’ll make it to forty.

🌠- A time they wished upon a falling star

Once, when Sam was little and the world was quiet, it looked up and out of the motel window and out onto the night sky. It was a rather quiet night with not a lot of commotion. For the first time in a long while, John had been with them and had slept with them for longer than two days. They were on their third night. Their third night as a family. Dean slept beside him, breathing even, and John was on the couch not that far away, gently snoring as he slept deeply. The only time that Sam ever knew that he was completely relaxed was when he snored. Sam looked up and out of the window and, for once, felt at peace. There were no horrors out in the world and everything seemed normal. Everything was easy. Up in the sky, there was a flash of light that seemed to be falling and Sam closed his eyes up tightly and exhaled his wish softly into the air. Dean never moved, John never stopped snoring. And the wish never came true either. At least not fully.

 🐺- A memory about being alone

Dean was dead and the world was still. John was gone too and it was like the world righted itself for a moment. There for a momentary second, as Sam thought about picking up hunting again to find his brother, save him from whatever miserable fate had fallen him, that everything was still. He was alone. Truly alone. Only the sound of him breathing settled in the room that he was standing in and his heart beat pounded in his ears like a drum, beating away the seconds and the minutes of time that tore into the silence. It filled him, drowning him in ways that made him ache like nothing else ever had. There was no sound here. There was the pounding of his blood and the soft heavy shuttering exhales that came from between his split lips. In all the time that Sam has wished for solitude, he never expected it to come like this. In this deafening sort of silence. 

⚔️- A memory about war

Mental war is still a war. You might not be getting your fists bloody and your vision may not see the waves of black or red that wish to invade but you do drown in the pain that comes with mentally tearing yourself open every day. Tearing chunks from the thing that use to be you while you do things you wish that you weren’t. While you run around the country and see things that make you cringe but your brother says it’s all in a days work. Mental war is a real war as you fight between who you are, who you want to be, and who everyone else says you should be. Mental war is looking at your brother and wishing you were like him but only paling in comparison. Mental war is looking at your situation and hating every bit of what is happening to you but doing nothing to fix it. Mental war is hating yourself for the blood you find beneath your fingernails but never saying a word as you stick them under the cold tap water and wash away the blood and the memories.
