Midwest music recommendations?
oh so many. these artists aren’t necessarily native to the region, but here are some songs i held dear on my long drives through the country.
“gideon” / fruit bats
“salvador sanchez (acoustic)” / sun kil moon (really anything from ghosts of the great highway, the whole album is fantastic)
“the roving” / bonny light horseman
“california stars” / billy bragg & wilco
“the bullshit century pt. 1” / dick stusso
“in reverse” / the war on drugs
“if i needed you - live” / townes van zandt
“farm” / skullcrusher
“angelina” / night moves
“which will” / nick drake
“sons and unwed mothers” / blitzen trapper
“montana” / slow pulp
“thoroughfare” / ethel cain (it’s no secret my blog is largely inspired by the entire preacher’s daughter album and the emotional landscape it creates. it lives and breathes the midwest, when i heard it for the first time i finally felt like my aching love was understood. it’s a desolate and deeply spiritual place, beyond hope in the eyes of the rest of the country yet also brimming with it; nothing else quite like it. hayden captures those conflicting sentiments perfectly in her art.)
I moved out of the prairie years ago and your blog makes makes me ache for it so sweetly. It's so good, thank you so much!
i moved away as well. that ache is such a special thing to share, i feel it the same way you do—it’s exactly what i wanted to emulate in this little online space. i deeply appreciate your words, thanks for stopping by <3
