he should have continued to let her think it was hate, or at very least some form of resentment, that would have been the smart thing to do and exactly what a would have done six months ago before she stepped into his station and flipped her very strong moral compass on it’s edge. “it’s not you...you haven’t done anything wrong, in fact that might be half of the problem.”

he wished that he was a better man. he wished that he was a better person in general as he looked across at the blonde. “i don’t know.” it wasn’t much of an answer but it was something he couldn’t take back so here they were. moving behind her bram let his arms wrap around her for a second, taking her in his arms where he let himself rest for just a second. “she text me this morning, she’s on her way here....i just need time to figure it out dav, let me figure it out and i’ll - we...”

“of course you are but it makes my life so much harder than it needs to be.” bram was in the wrong here, he knew he was, he could have just walked away from her now and made it so much easier than he was currently making it but he couldn’t move from the spot that he had found himself rooted to. “i’m saying i can’t....i can’t stand here with you now in this moment and be with you and want to kiss you and run my fingers through your hair when i have her waiting for me, when she’s done nothing wrong i just....i want to, i’m telling you i want to.”

“like what?” of course she knew what look he meant, she couldn’t help the mixture of hurt, sadness and need she felt, why did the timing have to be so off with them? davina had really always felt this way for him but her confidence hadn’t been the best, even now she had only admitted her feelings because she was scared they wouldn’t have another chance again. her whole body tensed as she heard those three words, ‘i love her,’ god, she wished she could un-hear them. “okay… then that’s that.” she spoke in a strained voice, trying her best to hold back tears.

“like you’re going to cry and i’m ruining your life just by being here.” he should have known that it was a bad idea to come down here with his parents, he hadn’t been back in years for a reason and this was it. this place had too many memories and they all centred back to davina, she was at the middle of all of his nostalgia and being back here with her - he had fallen straight back into old habits and old feelings and now he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do with himself. “that doesn’t mean i don’t...” was he allowed to love both of them?

“no you don’t get it. it’s torture, being around you.” he was a good guy, a good cop and he had never, never let himself get into this sort of situation before and yet here he was now, with her in front of him looking at him like this. noah knew her every move, her every mood even and yet despite knowing her inside and out at this point he wasn’t allowed to do anything about it. “i can’t hang out around you outside of work, in work is almost too much.”

there was a slight sting as what they had been doing was shut down so quickly. davina hadn’t seen him in years so reconnecting with him, finally getting a chance to say how she felt, she had expected it to be perfect and yet here she was. it was clear from her expression his words hurt slightly, “this isn’t just fun and games to me… but if that’s what you need to tell yourself in order to feel better for wanting what we both want then fine.” she sighed, “i hope she knows how lucky she is.”

“please don’t look at me like that.” it broke his heart and honestly he wasn’t sure that he could look at her at all. not when she was looking at him for that, not when he wanted to just take her in his arms again and he couldn’t do that. why couldn’t they have just done all of this sooner? why had they needed to wait. “it’s not fair to her, it’s not fair to you either but it’s not fair to her...i love her davina.”
