The Prodigal Bum
Well, here I find myself again! It’s been a little while; I’d found myself drifting from the monotony of the Big T of late, but new passions have brought me back into its’ warm, slightly clammy grasp. For why, you gasp?
In the words of Wayne at the start of his second outing; ‘It’s been a couple of years - I’m a little older, I’m a little wiser’ - I’ve lived overseas for a while, travelled to far-flung spots and had time for my brain to get out of the constant compression of the daily drudge. I’ve found myself back in the same (Corporate) world that I had left, for the same reasons (money) and within a week of that anodyne, perfectly ‘fine’ existence, I’m gasping for air.
But what is the alternative? It’s funny, I’ve had the same passions consistently throughout my life, and never recognised the possibility or my ability to undertake them as a vocation. Namely, readin’ and ritin’.
I love to read. I devour books voraciously, relishing every morsel before moving onwards, casting for the next to absorb myself in and be absorbed by. I love to write. Words feel like they’re barely held back at every waking moment, whether I’m speaking, writing a birthday card, or composing an email to a business associate. So why have I never ploughed that ceaseless flow of words, both in and out, into my paid life? I can’t answer, truly.
Such regrets and questions are beside the point, for the bit is between my teeth! I realise now that my true calling has always been with me, and I would be nigh-on derelict in my duty to myself to ignore that, simply for the stability offered by the safe, dull world of corporate life.
While I have never had the pleasure (?) of Bruce Willis in bed with me, I echo the statement of his paramour in Pulp Fiction; ‘Mon Amour. L’aventure commence’.
In that case, allons-y! Let’s take a walk and see where this writing lark takes me...

I've not been on Tumblr much the last couple of months, and views like this are the reason why. Get out and see some yourselves...

Have you ever listened to Creedence?
There are few bands I've listened to in my life who have touched something in my soul, really spoken to me. Creedence Clearwater Revival are everything I need musically in my life at this point in time. Plus The Dude digs 'em too
