Ok, quick rant (I hope): Tonight’s episode of Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, was dry up until like, the last 3 minutes ( not the issue, but whatever). Bianca and Dorothy sat down to discuss what the hell led up to their little tiff during Dorothy’s birthday festivities. Dorothy came in looking for an apology and Bianca came in looking for one as well, and possibly an opportunity to spill some tea. Basically, short story shorter, Bianca told Dorothy that Morgan has been referring to her as a “chinky twinkie” behind her back. Now, when Bianca brought this up during last week’s episode to Morgan’s face, Morgan responded by saying “Who told you that?” and then went on to express her regret in her talking head interview. Now, fast forward to tonight’s episode, Bianca drops the bomb, and Dorothy reacts the way any POC would if they found out their supposed best friend, whose wedding they’re in and who they’ve known for years, was calling them a derogatory term based on their race, to everyone but them. As if this isn’t disturbing/revealing enough, the large number of white ppl live-tweeting the episode, were so dismissive and were saying things like “Really Dorothy? You’re gonna let Bianca come in between your friendship with Morgan?” PAUSE. Pretty sure Morgan did that on her own when she decided to use a racial slur in reference to her friend, and way to victim blame the girl who just found out she’s been betrayed to that extent. What’s worse is I actually saw someone make a “joke” about calling border patrol on Bianca because she’s like half Mexican or some shit. I liked this vapid, entertaining and seemingly harmless show, but after tonight’s episode, I’m not very interested in supporting a person who can’t even conceal their prejudices enough to not offend their close friend, or a show that is also enjoyed by so many ignorant people.
