I should probably preface this by saying, yes, Spencer and Toby reuniting in 7x18 is too soon after Yvonne’s death. Yes, I agree.
But, okay, first of all, if you’re looking for some real life standards, you’re watching the wrong show, okay?
And second of all, it’s too soon but at the same time, Spencer and Toby aren’t getting (possibly) engaged (if they even do) until after the one year timejump or the second time in 7x20.
That’s the actual longest, most unrushed engagement for any couple on the show.
Ezra and Aria broke up in season effing five. They were never together in all of season six. Alright, so then they built up their reunion for ten episodes, but they got back together in 7x01, I believe Ezra was gone for 7x02 and 7x03, and then next thing you know Ezra proposed to her. Are you really telling me that’s not rushed? Broken up for SIX years and reunited for maybe two weeks before engaged?
Hanna and Caleb. Oh boy. Okay, they were together I believe three years into the timejump. Good good for them! But then they got back together–after he could not have showed LESS concern for her all through 6B and in parts of 7A. And after he stood on Spencer’s doorstep and called her a mistake–in 7x10. Well, Yvonne died maybe two weeks after Hanna and Caleb got back together. So they have been together about two weeks longer than Toby’s been grieving…. and they’re now engaged. So are you really telling me that’s not ridiculous as well?
Emison’s engagement hasn’t happened yet but it’ll happen, I assume, after a very short time of being together as well.
Spoby were together three years ago. They have both showed clearly they’re still in love with each other. They both tried as hard as they could to let the other one go and to be happy for them, but it’s been shown to be extremely hard for both of them. Toby put off his engagement and was building Spencer a house. Spencer gave him a book of love poems and asked to kiss him when she thought she may never see him again. Spencer backed off when Yvonne was in the hospital and gave Toby space when she died. Yes, it’s too soon for them to reunite if this were real life but honestly? It’s not. And they will have (possibly) the longest relationship before getting engaged. So that’s something.
This wasn’t meant to hate on your ship. I’m just pointing out how all of them are ridiculous at this point. All them getting engaged fresh out of high school would have made 1844823898384393 more sense.
