Salt, Pepa & Spinderella at the 38th Annual Grammy Awards (1996).
So if someone's parents are a public school teacher (55k a year) and a sanitation worker (55-75k a year or more in some places), their art is automatically bullshit to you?
Great example here of A) people not having a clear concept of what working class jobs pay outside the poverty range and B) confusing income with class.
But yeah, if your parents own the means of production your art is probably lousy (but they probably also make more than 100k a year).
I don’t think a meme poking fun at a certain milieu of young artists is obligated to express a coherent and complete class-economic analysis nor should it be taken at its literal textual level
It's a low effort meme that makes its point badly and contributes to the annoying trend of leftists who wage horizontal class war because they don't understand how class actually functions.
For liberals who prefer to talk about income brackets rather than class because doing so rhetorically neutralizes large centers of working class power (e.g. union workers, who's combined household income tends to be higher than 100k) I guess this meme might seem reasonable but to anyone who insists on addressing class it fucking sucks.
Fair enough!
they sound like they make art that i don’t wanna see
