“Maybe I’m kind. Maybe I just needed something to pass the time the during the day.” Bruce smiled thinly. “I hate to say it, but he’s probably right. It’s a strange world we live in, some travel might be a good experience for someone your age. I know it did wonders for me.”

         ☆*. “GOOD DEED FOR THE DAY TO GO BACK TO BEING YOUR ROTTEN SELF,” she giggled softly, clearly teasing and going along with what he had to say. “Maybe it just makes you feel good,” Gwen added, but then nodded her head. “I just don’t think he’s going to find anywhere completely safe... And uprooting my life, well, it will make it hard to get scholarships and go to school... I don’t know, sometimes I don’t think he sees my side.”

“Well that can’t be very exciting, we tend to be a tedious bunch.” He looked her up and down, sizing her up. “The city can be pretty dangerous for someone your age, now more than ever. Taking a car might be the safest thing to do, especially at night.”

         ☆*. “OH I DON’T THINK I COUNT YOU IN THAT, YOU’RE ALREADY A LOT KINDER than any of the others I’ve met,” she hummed as they rounded a corner and he looked over at her. “True enough, I’m sure my dad will be pushing it a lot more now soon, considering the weather change and everything else. I’m sure he’s already looking for somewhere else for us all to live.”

       ☆*.❝ THANKS FOR THE TIP, ❞ SHE RESPONDED, APPRECIATING the advice she had been given. ❝ But I think I’ll keep it open for a bit. I really hate these paper lids. Whoever that created them was a genius, but also an idiot, since it takes too long to cool. ❞ A small pout was on her lips at her last statement. Eyebrows raised when Gwen explained that she was a worthy opponent when it came to snowball fights. A giggle escaping from her throat when she tried to be threatening. ❝ Do you want me to answer you honestly or stick you a lie? Fair warning, I’m not the most convincing actress, but I’ll give it a shot if it makes you feel better, ❞ she teased.

        ☆*.“YOU ARE VERY WELCOME,” GWEN GRINNED AND NODDED IN RESPONSE. SHE was always willing to lend a hand and give advice, made her happy to be of service. It was just the kind of girl she was. “You could always pop it off for a bit, then put it back on when you want to drink it. I’m sure the cool air will help a bit.” More words of wisdom as she smiled softer, then and then switched gears back to the snowball fight conversation at hand. “Stick with what you think is a lie, because you will learn that it is truth in time, I just know it.” And that was the truth of the matter, she’d show her.

         ☆*. “OH. WELL, THAT WORKS, TOO,” GWEN GRINNED IN RESPONSE, EYES bright as she watched the other slide them into place and then keep the rest in her arms. “Mine, too. It’s not ‘til April, though, but I need to get a head start if I want to make something really impressive.”

     ☆*. KIRAN LIFTED HER HEAD AT THE SOUND OF ANOTHER VOICE, noticing the girl struggling under the weight of a load of books. Hurrying towards her, she helped stabilizing her on her feet. ❝ Of course not. Here, I can put some in my backpack too, if it helps, ❞ she mentioned, reaching out for the books on top of her pile. ❝ What are all these books for? ❞

         ☆*. THANKFUL TO HAVE SOMEONE RUSH TO HER SIDE, GWEN SMILED and did her best to make it as easy as possible. “Backpack works -- I don’t want to stop you from making it easier on you when you’re helping me,” she chuckled gently and helped her. “Science and history projects, my own reading, and trying to decide what to do for the science fair... I didn’t even think I would pick out this much... Whoops.”

“Ha, maybe, but no use thinking about what could have been. Besides, next time I can send Alfred with the car, if you like.” He chuckled, imagining Alfred’s reaction if Bruce lent him out as a chauffeur for hire. “At least this way you got some fresh air, exercise, and met a billionaire.”

         ☆*. “YOU’RE RIGHT,” SHE SMILED, ALREADY APPRECIATING HIS PHILOSOPHY, at least with that, in life. “Oh no, it’s fine, I’ll just have to remember to drive my car more. It’s weird, I didn’t used to have the chance, since being younger than sixteen and all,” she chuckled. “Definitely. You don’t get to do that every day. I mean millionaires are so passe,” Gwen joked. “I see at least three of those every day.”

“No, I finished school quite a while ago now,” Kara blushed, following the girl’s lead. “I miss it sometimes though; the science fair was my favourite. What are you planning to do your project on? I always used to do mine on space,” she told her enthusiastically.

WELL, WHAT DID YOU STUDY?” SHE THOUGHT MAYBE THE OTHER had been in graduate school or something in the like, but it must be something else to have no schooling left. “I actually haven’t decided yet, there’s a few subjects I’m interested in, genetics is always interesting, but I also like studying people. The stars are lovely, too. Hence all the science books, I have to pick something soon.”

Bruce’s smile briefly dipped. “The event? Well, I certainly hope you were out of there before the…. unpleasantness. That’s not something for someone your age to see.” He adjusted his grip on the books and began to follow her. “But no, you’re not keeping me from anything. I always have time to lend a hand.”

         ☆*. “OH YEAH, FIRST SIGN OF TROUBLE AND MY DAD WAS OUT OF THERE, it’s such a shame that had to happen, it was a good memorial and a lovely party. I don’t see why anyone felt the need to ruin it,” she breathed, suddenly sorry she brought it up for the moment, she bounced back easily, though, like a rubberband. “Well, thank you. I know there’s people here who aren’t so keen to help, so it means a lot. Keeps me from sending them flying or falling on my face which is good,” she joked. “Probably should have drove here, though. Would have made this easier.”

Bruce paused has he was getting into his car, checking his watch. Yeah, he had time. He instructed Alfred to circle the block, before turning to the young woman behind him. “I suppose I could take a few.” Taking them in his hands, he feigned a look of exhaustion. “At least I won’t have to go to the gym today! Shall I follow you, Miss….?”

         ☆*. SHE HATED TO INTERRUPT SOMEONE’S DAY, BUT SHE ALSO HOPED there was some kindness in the world and she would get a yes. She should have realized who it was when she asked, but now she did when he spoke to her and was grateful he said yes, even going as far as laughing when he teased her. “Oh no, I’m sure you’ll be fine,” the blonde grinned. “Gwen. And you are... Bruce Wayne. I was at your event until my dad smuggled me away. He’s very protective, comes with the ex NYPD territory. It’s just a couple blocks. I hope I’m not keeping you from anything,” she added as she started leading him. “I’d hate to do that, but thank you.”

“I get that,” Kara nodded. “So what are you working on, then? Is it for school or…?”

         ☆*. “SCHOOL AND A LITTLE BIT OF MY OWN READING, WRITING IS ALWAYS better if I have kept up with reading. It’s kind of a cool phenomena,” she hummed and started leading the other toward her house. “But it’s nearing time for big tests and the science fair... Just got a lot of things to do, but I’m not worried at all. I’ll get it done. What about you? You in school?”

“Since when it’s mandatory to help when people ask nicely? If I asked kindly to shut up, would you do that anyway?” He cocked his head on the side with a fake smile trying to look nice. Her argument was invalid. “Did I insult you? No. Maybe I’m on my periods! Who knows! That’s what women keep saying when they are moody as fuck” He paused suddenly concerned. “Are you?” He finally rolled his eyes at the younger woman. “Are you done? Yeah? Can we go now?” Roy wasn’t exactly the type to give a good first impression and she probably already hated him but he helped so why was she complaining. “Where to?”

         ☆*. “NEVER SAID IT WAS, THERE’S POLITE WAYS TO TURN IT DOWN,” her eyes narrowed, though, as he proceeded to become even more of a jerk than the simple rudeness he’d given her before. Must there be people out there like this? And must they think she has to take his attitude? There was no argument, and if there was she was right, so she just looked at him and grew increasingly more offended with everything he said. “You can’t say whether you insulted me or not and you are certainly insulting me right now. I don’t think I’ve met someone so rude in my entire life and I grew up in New York. You know what, forget it, I’d rather fall flat on my face and break my nose than continue this, congratulations, you are off the hook.” She took her books back from him and shook her head, then waved, “have a good day,” and walked away.

         ☆*. IF ANY REPLIES OR MESSAGES COME MY WAY, I WILL GET THEM later since I need to focus on readying for my job interview and my other responsibilities right now. I should be on later tonight to get all of those, though, so see you, then!

Roy rolled his eyes at the teenager, as he noticed she was talking to him. Damn, she ain’t in distress right now. He still could get away by faking he didn’t hear her due to his earplugs, but he finally removed them to walk over her. “You can’t buy a bag like everyone else?” He waited for an answer, but took the books from her under both his arms anyway. “Where do you live? Is it far from here? ‘cause I got a car - and no, I won’t kidnap you if you say yes - but since you asked for my help, you better say yes, so we can do it my way.” The fastest it was done, the fastest he would be home.

         ☆*. CONFUSION FOUND HER AS HE ROLLED HIS EYES, ASKING FOR HELP was not a crime -- would he rather she had propelled forward and the books hit him as they went flying? Still, though, she was conscientious and offered a smile despite it all. “I can, I just didn’t bring one today. You know,” she started. “You could be a little nicer, not like I was like oh hey yo you better help me with these books and I won’t take no for an answer, no I asked you nicely. And kindness seems to be something running lower here, maybe extend the respect and courtesy? Thank you.” Her tone was firm, but she wasn’t rude even as he wrenched the books from her and tucked them under his arm. “No, it’s just a couple of blocks. If you prefer a car, that’s fine, but again, you could be less rude. Why even ask if you’re going to force me to do it the way you want or face your grumbling anyway?”

“Yes, of course!” Kara replied, having noticed the girl struggling with the large pile and been about to offer help before she had asked. She reached for the books quickly as they almost toppled over again, effortlessly taking over half of the pile. “You know, the internet is a lot lighter,” she joked.

         ☆*. “WELL, THANK YOU,” GWEN’S SMILE GREW AND SHE HELD THE BOOKS out a little bit more so that she wouldn’t lose the bit of balance she had with them, but also so it was easier for the other to take a few. Even two or three would be a help, honestly. Her light laughter came, though, as she was teased minutely. “Oh, well, there’s no feeling like actual books beneath your fingers, but there’s also less distraction.”

THE GREAT FORTUNE OF JASON TODD: always in the wrong place at the wrong time. not that he hated having to help teenage girls with their … giant stacks of library books. he could say no. but he left being a dick to other people, just— you know. he was a BUSY MAN, with places to be. normally the l e a t h e r jacket, r i p p e d jeans, and c i g a r e t t e look were enough to deter doe-eyed blondes from asking him to walk them home. girl had GUTS. “ sure thing, kid. ” he flicked the cigarette to the ground and felt it crunch underfoot, stealing a little over half the stash and tucking it under his arm. a wayward glance toward his motorcycle… hell, it’d probably still be here when he got back. “ what, you got a science project coming up or something? ”

         ☆*. SURE MAYBE LEATHER JACKETS AND THE STINK OF CIGARETTES would deter most girls especially most girls people saw like they saw her -- sweet and innocent or bubble gum pop, but she didn’t judge people, not even a little bit. It wasn’t her job, she did help them, though, if things were happening. She was hopeful, though, as she looked at him with pleading eyes and the teetering books. It did surprise her to be called kid, though, made her make a face despite the genuine smile on her lips. “Well, thank you.” Her smile brightened and she fell into step beside him, following his gaze to his motorcycle. “Is that yours?” Her brow raised. Oh her dad would kill her for this, but she wouldn’t make him leave it behind. “Science project, history project, English paper and light reading. You know, the works,” she chuckled. “But uh do you have a helmet? We can take your bike... If you want.”

Natalia knew a little bit about nearly everybody, which came down from training and how she handled her work (work, which was not what most people would call it - but there were just some people she felt that the grand hand gestures without much detail, it worked best for them) - but in knowing a little bit about everyone, including the bare bones goings on in Metropolis, Natalia knew that Gwen Stacy was a brilliant young woman with a lot of different ways she could go (especially since before the conferences, there were files from alternative universes that SHIELD had gotten their hands on, which were greatly interesting to her.) but this Gwen Stacy, she was just as important, and she knew that. So when the young blonde woman bounded over to make sure she was alright, Natalia smiled and chuckled in a low, rumbled kind of warm tone.

“I’m fine, darling, thank you,” she moved a few stray curls behind her ear to smile at her for a few seconds then waved her hand at the building, “so,” she waved at the building, “do you suppose this is a good neighborhood or ..I never can tell anymore, New York is New York is New York anymore.”

         ☆*. WHERE NATALIA KNEW EXACTLY WHO SHE WAS AND EVEN MORE ABOUT herself than she did, Gwen hadn’t the slightest idea who this redhead was. And that was a thing about her, she was happy to help people she didn’t know even when she had other places to be or things to do. Often she spread herself thin, but she always survived and worked it out even if it took some decompressing from the stress in the sense of sleep or relaxing with her reading, like the books she was going to get at the library soon. Maybe they’d fall in that lull. Either way she was happy to be there right then and happy to help.

“Oh you’re welcome. Steps can be tricky, especially in the winter. Make sure to salt them when it’s snowy. Ice just makes it worse.” Of course she was aware Nat likely already knew, but she still made sure to give the reminder, it never hurt. “Oh yeah, I think this one’s nice, I actually don’t live too far away from here and with my dad being an ex cop who checks on everything before moving anywhere, then I thin you can trust it,” she smiled. “You’re from New York? Me, too!”
