I am asking the aquarium/pond community of Tumblr:

If I wanted to make a custom decoration be it made out of concrete/clay/whatever(with or without painting it) what would be a good way to seal whatever it is so that it's waterproof, does not leak various chemicals into the water, and break down over time?

I do not have any aquarium set up with any plants or animals(yet) but I'd like to know of various methods and the products names/specifications to look for in the product if possible as I have scored the internet but people just say "epoxy resin" but there's several types of epoxy resin like food safe and non food safe and etc or even "just use plasti dip". I'd also like to know if applying clear pond/aquarium sealant would also work and such like that as an alternative.

I'm mainly asking in hopes of getting some actual answers before I do anything or I'm just going to experiment with various materials myself(without any plants/animals in a tank of course) and see what actually works.

Before anyone says "Just buy already made decorations/just 3d print it/have someone custom make it for you" I wanna do this myself for the pure love and enjoyment of creating things and because it'd be cute as heck to make a Pokemon center hide or a Poliwag bubbler for a fresh water tank. Plus if I could seal things safely for the tank I could seal anything including a Hatsune Miku figurine.

I'd definitely appreciate if you reblog so there's a chance someone who has done this stuff before can lend some assistance.
