Notable moments, for those who don't wanna watch and are just here for the Prince goss (I know y'all):
The first/second meeting: "So I was out at a nightclub and I end up meeting Prince. Of all people! I think it was the second time I ended up seeing him. I went to his hotel and we were just hanging out as friends, you know, it wasn't anything other than that. And I was working on music with Capitol Records, so he wanted to hear my music. And that's what I went over there for."
Her stage name: "We watched an old movie, called Carmen Jones (1954), and he said, 'You don't look like a Tara, how could your mom name you Tara?!'. And I was just like, 'Oh my God!'. He's like, 'You're- you look like a Carmen.' [...] And so that's how the begining of my name started and then Electra came later. [...] And so he just thought, you know, he would say 'You're like electric!', and then later on he came up with Electra. And that's where my name came from. [...] [When you hear the name Carmen Electra, what's the first thing that comes to your mind?] I just think Prince, because he named me."
Start of their professional relationship: "And I remember he would videotape me dancing to show the other dancers. Like, 'I want you to dance like this', cause he would go, 'My God, you- you're so fast. You dance so hard and so fast', and he loved how I danced. [...] We were friends, and then he became my mentor. He wanted to sign me to Paisley Park Records. [âŠ] I already had a demo deal with Capitol Records, so I remember telling him, 'I can't, I already have a deal, I don't wanna get in trouble!', and he thought that was funny; 'get in trouble'. He ended up buying me out of the deal."
Recording with Prince: "It was the most intimidating thing ever. You know, i'm working with Prince, i'm in the studio; and God forbid you hit a bad note. He was funny, he had a good sense of humor, and he- he would bark! He would say funny sayings and you would just go, 'Oh my God, I can't believe! Can't believe this is happening in front of Prince! Oh my gosh!'. You know, or he would just make fun of you if you messed up, but then after a while you kinda got to see that's just his sense of humor, try not to take it too personal. [...] Ever since I was a little girl, all i've-, always wanted to do, was have fun. And even in the studio, recording with Prince, Prince asked me, 'What'd you wanna do?', and I said, 'I wanna have fun'. So he wrote a song for me called Fun."
Their romantic relationship: "I flew to Minnesota and, you know, some time went by but then he went from friend and mentor to boyfriend. And, you know, I was nineteen when that happened, so I was very young. [...] I loved him as both [mentor and boyfriend], honestly. It was hard, it was really hard."
Best part of their relationship: "I would have to say, his inspiration. He gave me self-confidence to be alone in L.A. and believe in myself. He believed in me and that's all I needed to know, someone like Prince believes in me?! I'm gonna make a career for myself."
Their break up: "[Did you break it off?] I did, I did. I found out he was dating a lot of other girls and I was really upset because he would tell me I was the only one and that I was his girlfriend and, you know, was so young, so naive to think that Prince would be with only one person, but I believed him, I believed him. And the way he would maneuver us around led me, you know, to know that, 'Ok, I am the only one'. And I started to put two and two together about a few things I would see going on [...] It got to the point where I was meeting a ton of girls who knew who I was, and my music, and my videos weren't even out yet! And so, I would ask them, 'How do you know who I am? How do you know my name?', and they would say, 'Through Prince, I was at Prince's house' [...] I ended up, kinda dating someone, it wasn't anyone he knew, wasn't anyone in his band, and that didn't go over too well. [...] He had private investigators follow me, he found out everything, he knew something was up and he found out everything and that's when I got the call, that when I got that kind of a call."
How did Prince take the break up: "He was not happy, at all. He was really upset and I know, at one point, he said, 'Ok, either you move back to Minnesota, you cut your hair and dye it red, or you stay in L.A.'. And I thought about it, and kinda wanted to say, 'Ok, i'll go back, but you have to cut your hair even shorter and you have to dye your hair red too', but I just didn't, you know, I was so young, I didn't have- I had the sassiness in [my mind] but I was afraid to speak my voice. [...] I don't know what would of happened if I had gone back to Minnesota, I mean, I had already cheated and he wrote a song about me called Eye Hate U. 'I love you, that's why I hate you. I hate you, that's why I love you', it's- you know, pretty much, like, how the lyrics go. And I think everyone, at this point, knows that song was written about me."
Working with Prince after the break up: "I went on to dance for him in a show called Erotic City in downtown L.A., which was really cool."
