The Princess Sleeping in a Tower of Roses @prinzessinrosen

Politics werenāt exactly Elefseusā best subject. It had never mattered to him: his brother would be the one to inherit everything, so he could just become a general and support his family that way. Sadly, his parents didnāt seem to agree with that opinion and ordered him to go deal with matters in another faraway kingdom. His only company were a bunch of soldiers and Polydeuces, a man that was more of a father to him than his real one.
Moira was by his side on the matter, he guessed, because the good company and the chance to travel made the ordeal quite bearable at the end.
However, what brought him to her side wasnāt orders from his family or a desire to find a wife. It was all simple chance⦠or perhaps destiny? After all, they were just searching for a place to sleep when they caught sight of that castle and, by the time they realized that the entrance was blocked by wild roses, it was too late.
They slept outdoors that day, as they commented the tales some of them had listened about the existence of such a place. If they were to be trusted, a whole kingdom slept behind its doors waiting for the person that broke the curse inflicted to their princess. A kiss was all she needed to wake from her slumber, or so they said.
The men laughed at it, not believing those barbaroi stories even for a moment. Elefseus didnāt believe it either, but⦠what if it was true? He couldnāt get that idea out of his head and, by the morning, curiosity had gotten the better of him. With sword in hand, he walked towards the entrance and tried to open a path between the spines.
It was surprisingly easy, but by then he hadnāt realized why.
The sight inside was enough to make him gasp of pure shock: the whole place was filled with sleeping people. At first, he tried to wake them up one by one, but soon the tales came back to his head. If this was true, perhaps
After gulping, but unable to leave matters alone, he went deeper and deeper. His steps lead him to the top of a tower so profusely covered by roses it was hard to see stone from the outside. There he found what he had regarded as a silly tale until then: a girl, perhaps a bit younger than him, sleeping in a bed of flowers.
⦠He looked blankly at the girl, unable to think in a way to proceed. Should heā¦? But⦠Oh, well⦠it was⦠just a kiss, right? Still, he⦠he didnāt know her at all, and she was sleeping⦠And how could he know if it would work? He walked around the room as he pondered about his options, looking at the sleeping girl like a lost kid. If only he had asked Polydeuces to come with him⦠perhaps he would know what to do.
After long minutes of indecision, he finally looked once again at the girl. Another gulp. If he was to help her and her people, then there was only one option: go for it. Walking in strides, he closed the distance between them and put his lips awkwardly over hers.
A curse over her, since she was a baby, it predicted that at her fifteenth birthday she would prick with a spindle and then fall asleep for a century, her kingdom would accompany her. Despite of all the way to prevent it, it happened. She was sleeping in the tower of roses, on a bed made of flowers, waiting patiently for her charming prince to wake her up; oh, and she truly knew how that was supposed to happen: a love kiss from her promised man, from the person that would love her since the very instant they saw each other. Rose was totally looking forward to that part of the curse, finding love and having a happy life.
The predictons also said a little detail, while the whole kingdom would be covered in roses and thorns, those would leave free access to the promised prince.
And there she was, sleeping peacefully, on her skin and her features there wasnāt a sign of the pass of time, she still looked like a teenager despite of the century.
The moment their lips touched, her eyes opened slowly and tried to focus on her love. Yet the light was so difficult to handle right now, everything she could see was the silhouette of a young man before me. Despite of not being able to see well right now, her eyes showed life and a huge happiness, followed by a bright smile.
