white europeans love to pretend like the united states and europe aren’t two cheeks of the same ass
Israel is bombing Iranian civilians and gleefully put out press release calling it a 'pre-emptive' attack while Iran has been negotiating for weeks. 'Pre-emptive' strikes don't exist in International law. International law doesn't exist either it seems. What exists is Israel, a made up terrorist limb of the cancerous American state and it feeds the capitalist appetite for blood and oil.
many white people on this app are not as progressive as they claim to be. you lot will find any excuse to justify anti-black racism. precautions could have and should have been taken to protect the black attendees at the baftas. stop calling black people ableist for pointing out the double standards. black disabled people are not given the same leeway when it comes to hurling racial abuse at others. both the united states and england have a very long history of abusing black disabled people, particularly black women. i urge everyone to reflect on their own biases...
Did some research on a form of Tourette’s called “Coprolalia” and I understand that it isn’t controllable and what is said doesn’t exactly reflect the person’s values and beliefs, but it should NOT excuse the person who has it from taking accountability and apologizing when using SLURS towards people. Being a Black American and having to see two amazing Black actors who should’ve been celebrating their achievements be humiliated in such a horrific and degrading way (ESPECIALLY during Black History Month here in the US) was absolutely HEARTBREAKING.
Multiple things can be true at once: Tourette's can cause someone to have unwanted and uncontrollable movements and vocal sounds. Coprolalia often causes those with it to say things that are FAR from what they want to, and it makes them deeply embarrassed because, again, this isn't something they want to say. On the other hand, Black people aren't wrong for feeling hurt by the slur and they aren't wrong for wanting an apology more than just "If anyone was offended-." Not for the condition, but the harm that was caused by the saying of a slur. You can hurt someone by accident, something you couldn't control, but that also doesn't erase the impact and apologies can still be needed. I can accidentally hurt someone's feelings without realizing it (has happened many times), and apologized for it WITHOUT framing it as me doing so for my ADHD/autism.
This BAFTA situation is not the Black community vs the disabled community that many, mostly racist, are trying to paint it as, because that reflects how Black disabled people are often forgotten during these conversations. Speaking of racists, many of them have been using this situation as a way to be bigots (on Twitter and this app) whilst pretending they care for the disabled community. They don't, and you can see this with how they have either never spoken up for them before, often participate in ableist rhetoric when it suits them, AND with how they treat Black disabled people. There's layers to it, so don't fall for it, these people are not genuine.
the BAFTA 2026 situation is insane, but what's even more insane to me is how many people are trying to say davidson doesn’t have to apologize for yelling the n-word at two black men on live television.
he’s disabled, i understand that, but that doesn’t mean he can't take accountability. i thought we all learned in kindergarten that our words matter and that if you make a mistake and say something offensive (accident or otherwise), you should apologize.
he couldn’t control it and he didn’t mean it, but it still came out of his mouth, it’s incredibly hurtful, & he should apologize for causing that hurt. expecting lindo & jordan to just "get over it and move on" AND expecting black people to be fine with racial slurs directed at them in any form is dumb as hell.
BBC should never have aired that shit, either, but they were perfectly fine with cutting out akinola davies jr. saying "free palestine."
fuck them.
A long day of watching people center white feelings over black ones huh.
Regarding the BAFTA situation
How it must've felt for two black men, Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo at a highlight of their careers on stage, to hear that word screamed at them in front of their peers, a white audience, and the world. I can't imagine.
The response is telling though, nothing but empty platitudes and whatever the race equalivent of mansplaining is from yt ppl.
We know what tourettes is and I feel awful for John Davidson who said it. However the internet's response is a complete focus on the poor white man yelling racial abuse, not on the two black men who had to stand there and take it, or the BBC for what they choose to censor and their lack of safe guards.
White people choose to not learn and not care how that word affects black bodies and minds and how it empowers the worst of humanity.
Despite the cries, it isn't ableist to not focus on the abuser of the scenario, however unintentional or uncontrollable his actions were.
Just another case of PoC expected to take everything lying down and look after everyone else's feelings above their own.
Big Jim Crow mindset from some people.
