Phillip Wikerson * Unfolding Quietly
14:40
This piece is subtle though complex in its movement. Sound reminiscent of ocean waves and wind create a bed for the musical content. The tones with their changes are like being on the cusp of various emotions and as a result the listener becomes an active participant as it sublimely draws out thoughts and feelings.
Phillip Wilkerson began releasing ambient music in 2005, after many years of creative exploration with synthesizers, guitars, and virtual instruments. His music focuses on contemplative atmospheres, harmonic drones, and amorphous soundfields. Phillip has released music through Earth Mantra, Free Floating, and other netlabels and is a partner in the ambient duo Time Being, available through Lotuspike / Spotted Peccary.

Three film stills from Fathomless (1964) by Jim Davis, an astonishing display of coloured light in movement. Davis worked in special kind of way - an alchemical experimentation with light - his films are edited from filmed sequences of light refracted and reflected through coloured plastic sculptural installations. Davis would focus light from the sun using a mirror (or sometimes lights), projecting the light through various translucent coloured sculpture mobiles. He would then film the light refractions as they played themselves out on a screen.
But Davis considered light to be actually substantial - he felt his films were not really psychologically abstract or physically immaterial, but were reflections of fundamental natural forces, they were, in his words “suggestive of the causal properties of nature”.
Davis also felt that there was “something sacred, secret, that no human should know or see” in these forms, which hints toward a metaphysical intuition. This connects us to ideas of the ‘light of creation’, the alchemical/cabbalistic notion of light being a primary emanation of the divine, an intermediary substance between spirit and matter. That matter, without being impregnated with celestial light, could not in fact exist. And perhaps this is what Davis intuits - light as the primal form, pre-material.
Maybe this is, indeed, fathomless.
Note: the amazing films of Jim Davis are not available online, but can be got on DVD through the BFI or RE:Voir.
New tape of Brakhage scores by Rick Corrigan. Brakhage only made 27 sound films and here are the soundtracks to Visions in Meditation III, Cracked Glass Eulogy, and Boulder Blues and Pearls and …
The tape is being released with the blessings of Corrigan and the Brakhage estate… These are essential scores to essential films, super excited to get my copy.
From Imminent Frequencies:
Three electronic soundtracks by Rick Corrigan composed for films by the visionary filmmaker Stan Brakhage. During the mid 1980’s Rick Corrigan was part of the Colorado-based experimental ensemble Architect’s Office when he befriended local film legend Stan Brakhage. In the years that followed they would collaborate on numerous film projects and live performances in and around Boulder, Colorado. The three soundtracks presented here were made between 1990-1992 and were composed on a variety of synthesizers and electronic instruments. Over the course of each piece Corrigan uses various techniques to create a wide range of otherworldly sounds. Layers constantly shift in texture and tone forming an aural mosaic. Never redundant and thoroughly genuine, these are the sounds of an amazing electronic synthesis. Transferred from the original cassette masters and featuring artwork created from Brakhage’s original 16mm films.

I came across this track today, a most beautiful sound picture captured amazingly well.
Bethan Davis appears to live in Bath, watch too many films, be a bit of a gamer and takes photos sometimes. The artist will be releasing a collection of these wonderful moments on Green Field Recordings a Portuguese netlabel focusing mainly in pure field recordings. “Migrating Birds”
There was a nylon-string guitar resting in the basement of the apartment. I made a song.
Three grey concrete apartment buildings rise above me. They are splashed with the colors of clothes drying out in the breeze. As the day closes, the sun fades away from the building’s side. The leaves are still green but will fade soon also. There is a red cloth hanging in the window across from me. A beautiful young woman with long brown hair steps outside to take down a patterned cloth from the line. On the 14th floor, an old couple sits looking out across the city. A few children run through the alley between the buildings. I hear the hum of the city streets, but it feels far away from here.
---------------------------------
sTumbl-ed upon this beautiful tune from a filmmaker today..an elegant and moving effort..it incorporates nylon strings with simple percussion..the tonality of the guitar moves in such a great way in its duration..
more info on the artist can be found here in this inspiring blog.

Liber Jugorum- Control of Thought and Action

This track drones and sings with programmed guitar feedback and pulsates with the "found sound" of a subway drum circle with added tambourine and bells. It's a beautiful and deeply moving experience.
