So yes, I am putting Project Embers (PE) on hiatus until I am done with Sentenced to Mercy. There are multiple reasons that made me come to this conclusion. 1. I have started to grow frustrated, as I have been working on the foundations of Project Embers since October 2025, and I'll be honest, I have not put nearly as much work into it as I should have, or wanted to. Working on a story with a background set across centuries is a lot of work, and getting the historical details accurate and consistent is complicated. More than once I had to scrap days', sometimes months', worth of work, like falling into a week-long rabbit hole on BaZi (a Chinese system) when I needed Onmyōdō. Onmyōdō itself then took months and several attempts before I finally got it right. Then, on the 1st of June, as I was doing more research, I realized Onmyōdō wasn't serving the story the way I'd thought. So I had to rework the foundations completely. But it's now way better, makes more sense, and is less complex (because I was seriously losing my mind with Onmyōdō). 2. Project Embers is a very complex story, and I know I still have a lot to learn. I'd rather not make learning mistakes with PE and grow even more frustrated than I already am, or grow sour on it. So I'd rather focus on a simpler story first. That doesn't mean I'll put in less effort, it's just a different kind of work.
This is in no way an indication that PE is cancelled. I could never, for the life of me, abandon it. Priorities have just changed, and right now, it's best for me, and for PE, that I focus on StM.
I'd like to avoid giving a timeline for when I'll come back to PE, but what I can say for sure is that it will be once I've finished Sentenced to Mercy, released it in full on Wattpad, and published it as a physical book.
To follow the current progress and other updates on StM!
