Team Mythic Beasts 2026 Reboot: “Dýrherjar”
Luke here. New year, new chapter, new clothes! It’s been a while since the last Team Mythic Beasts post. And I thought this was our blog. But Makoto had other plans, I guess…
Anyways, if you have no idea who we are, you’re in luck, buddy. Because I’m here to go over our names one more time. Pay attention now:
Yes, our team now has units! This is the Feldvængr, our “caster” unit. If you haven’t noticed already, the three of them wear really big capes, as that’s usually an indicator for a powerful mage. Which they are.
On the right is the unit leader, Jones Fitzgerald, a man who tried (and failed, lmao) to take over the world. He doesn’t really like me… well, as if he likes anything or anyone at all. He says that only one other being has a place in his heart, and that’s his pet dog Hiro. We’re still trying to change that, believe us.
Arthur Blackwood is a meister of potions. He’s not even the unit leader, but he’s in the middle because he claims he’s the most sensible man in this bunch, which… he probably is, but he constantly looks and acts like he’s got a few screws loose. I think he would be more helpful if he weren’t busy ruining Jones’ day all the time.
Matthew James Leclair (he told us Mato is fine!) is a disciple of Prosope, the Titan of Abstraction. He has mastered the art of crossing the barrier between the waking world and the dream realm, and he can also take others with him. He came here to help alleviate Jones’ nightmares, and this earned him a place in our team. Jones actually warmed up to him much faster than he started liking me or Mikel. Hmph…
The Hjorrvængr is our “fighter” unit. They wield weapons made of metal, and their magic lies in their strength.
In the center is min kjære… I mean, Mikkel Andersen, who leads this unit as its first member. He may be the least adept at magic out of all of us, but he’s an honest man with incredible luck and fortitude. He wanted to join the paladins when he was young, believing it to be the best way to serve his hometown and the gods; but after watching them flee cowardly from an expedition, he decided it’s not worth fighting for them. Now, his loyalty is with the Titans, specifically the Titan of Life, who personally handed over his new armor. The runes on his belt write Velsignet (blessed) and Hengiven (devoted).
Finn Timo Merikotkien, to Mikkel’s left, is an inventor who’s far ahead of his time. But he believes he couldn’t get to where he is now without knowledge from the past. It’s gotten him some scrutiny from his own kind, but what’s their disdain to a god’s favor? Especially the favor of the Sun Goddess. Now Finny can do much more than fix things with his wrench — he can raise winds.
Master Abel Brandt on the right can forge anything with his great hammer, from small trinkets to sharp blades. He has named his greatsword, Bevrijding as his magnum opus. That same sword would bring down the demon who enslaved the thermal dragons for decades, hence the name “Liberation.”
Of course, all wings have a main body to support, and that applies to the Cloak-Wing and the Blade-Wing. And guess who’s to bear those wings?
That’s right, it’s me! I run the show, and I bear their stories. With my brush, I write new opportunities into reality. This is the divine duty bestowed upon me by my own mother, Great Titaness of Reality, Sovereign of the Full Moon. I also went ahead and drew little animal faces for my buddies. Animals are cute!
Special thanks to my brother Emil for coming up with our unit names, and for giving me this really sick title. You’re not technically part of Team Mythic Beasts, but you’re still the best.
May this new year be a fruitful one for all of us.
