Gabrielle Giffords: [Gun] violence is a big problem. Too many children are dying. Mark Kelly: We’ve got 15 to 20 times the death rate from gun violence than any other industrialized country. And Congress needs to address this problem. Gabrielle Giffords: We must do something.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords knows first-hand how gun violence impacts the U.S. today. On January 8, 2011, Giffords held a public event in Tucson, Arizona at which a gunman opened fire. Six people were killed, and many were seriously injured. Giffords was shot in the head and suffered severe skull and brain injuries.

In the seven years since the shooting, Giffords has made an unprecedented recovery. She even made an appearance in Washington to cast a vote on August 1, 2011—less than seven months after getting shot in the head.

Giffords eventually resigned from Congress. With her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, they started Americans for Responsible Solutions, a nonprofit with a mission to promote responsible gun ownership.

Today, on the day hundreds of thousands are coming together for March For Our Lives, we make this post to remind you that enough is enough.
