“What’s the problem, mom?”

Linda stared at her daughter, unsure of how to answer. She’d come home and walked in to find the living room smashed with furniture pushed into the corners of the room. She’d called out to her daughter Kelly, worried about the 18 year old high school senior.

Linda had always worried about Kelly. While Linda had been head cheerleader throughout high school, Kelly’s high school career had been much less impressive. 5’1”, flat as a board and always with her nose in a book, Kelly struck a less than impressive figure. Or, at least she used to.

Kelly stood before her mother, standing 6ft tall at least with breasts that lunges forward and threatened to swallow up her smaller mother. She’d obviously gotten her hands on some Jumbo Gro, and if the living room furniture was any clue, the young woman had recently been much larger. Linda realized that her daughter must have grown with Jumbo Gro and then shrunk down to a reasonable height with Minimizer, retaining all the perks to her body.

“No problem,” Linda said to her daughter, before bringing her in for a very squishy hug. “I’m just proud that my girl is all grown up.”

I try to put myself in her place, padding back and forth across the berber that covers her apartment’s floor. The furniture and decor all still the same but pausing to lean against the top of a door frame, scanning a familiar room but savouring it from an unfamiliar perspective as if it would be taken away at any moment, as if she might wake up.

It was simple enough to learn, too simple to be this effective and impossible to imagine being the only one to learn it. Maybe it was that same simplicity that would make anyone else dismiss it outright as impossible. But here she was, standing nearly a foot taller than she was when she woke up, able to will her physical form to any size she wished with focus and breathing.

Her first attempt was a modest but thrilling increase of 3 inches. Standing at 5'9, she posed and inspected her new proportions in a mirror and imagined the look on the face of her brother as they were now the same height.

As quickly as she grew, she forced herself back into a state of calm that allowed her to shrink back down to her original 5'6. She had to be sure she could ensure that her friends and family all take her growth as natural but once she was confident she could reverse any change that she took too far, she began pushing herself taller and taller only to teduce herself by half each time to keep the process fresh in her memory.

Rising from 5'9 to 5'11, she imagined standing nose to nose with the guy at work that she couldn’t bring herself to talk to. At 6'1 she pictured the look on her father’s face looking his “little girl” in the eye until 6'1 became 6'2, 63.5, 6'5 and her daydream was halted by the realization her face had disappeared above the top of the mirror’s frame.

Now standing at 7'2, she was left with one of those “angel vs devil” style battles of conscience. She didn’t want to stay indoors anymore, she wanted to go outside, she wanted to turn heads but not attract too much attention, should she return to 5'7 and work her way back up over time? Could she get away with a brief stroll as an anonymous amazon? How tall was too tall? Decisions, decisions!
