It's also great to see how Mycroft takes his father's orgazational and people skills and his mother's empathy, but Sherlock has his mother's mind and his father's moral flexibility. He's constantly breaking the law and doesn't see a problem with it. If it's for a good reason (see him breaking his mother out of the asylum), he'll justify it. And to see Mycroft and Sherlock constantly knocking heads because of this shows how opposite they are, and yet Mycroft being the older brother can't help trying to reign him in and help because he knows if he doesn't Sherlock will do it anyway but get into more trouble. Also he loves him too much to deny him much.

What is the thing that James and Sirius loved most about each other?

Confidence, risk-taking, and lack of social anxiety. Such people are very drawn to each other because, firstly, they are very rare, and secondly, they can be themselves around each other without holding back. It's a very liberating feeling — to be accepted and even loved for who you are without criticism. But it’s not just about being admired, it’s about the person truly understanding you and being almost like you, so you feel a real interest in them.

Of course, this isn’t the only thing that matters, but everything else — intelligence, appearance, background, etc — isn't the main thing. These are just points of connection, but what really attracts them to each other is this shared essence, right from their first meeting on the train.

For Sirius it was crucial that James saw and accepted him completely for who he was, while no one else did. Sirius had a difficult personality — sharp, distant, sarcastic. People often thought he was somewhat... not kind? Sirius was a stranger among his own and also a stranger among strangers.

James liked Sirius exactly for who he was. Sirius was Eros and Thanatos, Dionysian energy, not kind and gentle at all. James was drawn to this because the world is full of rules and norms, which are limiting, and his energy also needed an outlet — not in a rational Apollonian way, but in a chaotic Dionysian way. Sirius, through the way he was, encouraged and supported this in James. This is clearly seen in SWM.

This mutual recognition and acceptance were key. Together, they found in each other an exhilarating freedom.

5. Either? James would love to get married and Sirius wouldn't care. Maybe they'd get married just so Sirius can change his name (well also bc they love each other but that's a given either way)

I mentioned this in the discord server so Imma copy paste that: James try to propose in the perfect way like three times but something would mess it up, and then Sirius would pop the question while they'll cooking something (that ends up being burned after they focus too much on being engaged) and then they have a small wedding shortly after.

I feel like their jobs would be either be sort of adjacent to each other (like one plays quidditch and the other is a quidditch reporter?) or wildly different (like James working with creatures and Sirius dealing with Muggle technology or something). Either way they'd randomly and very frequently drop in on each other to deal with not being together

I hate love it when fanfiction is making me question what is canon and what is not. Especially when it's about characters that don't have that much canon to work with in the first place.

Like, did the Potters really live in a manor? It makes perfect sense but somehow I always envisioned them living a much more humble life. So is it me who got it wrong or maybe it's up to the fanfic author to decide?

It's more than obvious that being absent for years I forgot a lot of HP canon but I didn't think I would find myself not being sure about something when it comes to the Marauders and Prongsfoot. I feel like a lost a level in a game.

A lot of people do keep them in the Godric's Hallow cottage, but idk, I love the idea of them having a manor. It just feels more them for me. Besides, how on earth is James supposed to practice quidditch properly on Godric's Hallow (we know muggles live there). But that's just my opinion😆

I've been a bit inactive on this (and my other hp blogs) so thats probably why? Been in a bit of a Sherlock zone

Anyway, I understand where you're coming for, especially with who the Potters are like, but I just love the idea of Sirius, Remus and Peter coming into a manor, and Sirius is surprised by the warmth while Remus and Peter are of the size. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions though, ofc.

Also I love the idea of James having dangerous beasts (bc our boy has no self preservation 😂) in a forest within the grounds of his home and a quidditch field so... (Plus the idea of him having a house elf (specifically so Sirius can be like "woah my family is extra screwed"😂, but I go between yes and no for that)
