Her pale hands clenched together, nervously. Jasper wanting to make sure they were alone still didn’t sit easy with her. But then she heard what she said, and if Pearl had had any ears she would’ve wondered if she had a hearing defect.Â
“I-I, uh, I suppose t-that a thank you is in order..?” she stammered, bewildered by the surprising kind words from the Quartz. She wrung her hands together still. She supposed she’d say something else.Â
“How… Nice of you to say so, Jasper. I-I appreciate you saying so.”
It’s not enough.  It’s not enough.  Jasper can feel it,  in the way her chest clenches,  & the very core of her being,  everything that she was,  weighed down by GUILT  & REGRET & ... p a i n ---  ( Look what she’s become. A shell of her former self )  A fighter, beaten in the corner,  with a bloodied lip & shaking knees.  Her emptiness if a coat  that she wears around her,  hugging it tight.   “ You don’t  G E T  I T. “  Her voice is rough,  & strained,  pulling at emotion, allowing her eyes to fill with tears,  which she wipes away with a rough knuckle,  & slouched shoulders.   “  I’m... sorry-- For everything I did--  I didn’t know that--  ....   I know how it is to... lose someone you... care for.  & I’m sorry for not seeing it... sooner.  I should’ve known....”
