She’s gone.
The love of my life.
My good luck charm.
Gone.
I couldn’t save her, no medicine in the world or in Neverland…could save her. She knew this was going to happen, but went through with it anyways. How could she leave me? How could she leave after giving me this…thing. This beautiful creature that I want nothing to do with now.
We were supposed to raise her together.
We were supposed to be the best parents in all of Neverland, the King and Queen, with a princess by their side. But now? I despise what we’ve created, this monster that killed my beloved. She looks more like me than she does you, the older she gets. But, she does have your hair and eyes…your beautiful eyes that I’ve loved for so long, now cold and lifeless…
Y/n was gonna be just like me, I knew she was, and she is. Growing stronger and more unstable everyday. When I sensed the evil spirit within her before she was born, I knew I should have done something about it. But, being the fool that I am, I said nothing. Did nothing. And now I pay the price for it. Seeing her, reminds of the day that I lost you…four years ago it feels like, but you know how time can be here. And the more I look at her, the hatred among me wants to end her life, wants to rip her heart out and place it back into yours.
But…I can’t do that. No matter how many times I bring myself to the thought I..I just can’t. It’ll be like loosing you all over again, taking away the only thing I have linked to you. I miss you.
“Daddy?” The voice was heard from behind me, making me whole body cringe in agony and hate. “Daddy okay?”
Breathing heavily, the tears that rolled down my cheeks burned away, replaced with a scowl that could chill any warmhearted creature in sight. How does she always find me? Can’t the bloody thing take a hint that I want to be alone? Can I not grieve at her mother’s grave in peace?!
“Get lost,” I rasped, gritting my teeth to keep from raising my voice. I heard her feet crunching the leaves from beneath her, coming closer and closer, only making my blood boil.
“Why daddy sad?” She was now a few inches away from me, her tiny hands holding onto my arm. “Daddy crying…” Y/n reached up to touch my face, but I was quick to grab her tiny hand in my large on, squeezing harshly. She yelped in shock and in pain, her eyes filling with tears instantly.
“What part of ‘Get lost’ don’t you understand?” I growled at her, my eyes turning a more sinister color. Tears streamed down her face as I pushed her away, making her fall onto her back. She got up quickly, running back towards the camp, her squeals and cries following behind her.
Standing up from my crouching position, I watched as she continued to run. A sudden guilty feeling started to consume me, the frightened cries that flowed out of her mouth surrounded the forest, making my chest hurt. Groaning, I ran towards her, the guilt growing more and more. How can I be so heartless to make my own blood afraid of me.
Once I was close enough to see that she made it to camp, I saw her run into Felix’s legs, hugging them tightly as she cried. His face flashed multiple emotions at once, from confusion, to shock, to concern. He quickly picked her up, holding her closely, trying to calm her down. Felix finally made eye contact with my bloodshot ones, his face showing a face I’ve seen too much around here. Disappointment. No matter how many of my lost boys I punish to make the look go away, it always comes back.
Slowly walking over to them, I heard her cries become harsher. She knows I’m close…and she’s afraid. My own daughter…
“Felix..can I…?” I held my hands up toward her, feeling ashamed to even ask. He looked at me for a moment, unsure of my gesture. “Please?” I begged, something I never thought would happen before I die. He gently pulled her away from his body, handing her over to me. And she was not having it.
She kicked and screamed, reaching toward Felix, calling out his name, and everything. Y/n didn’t want anything to do with me, and I don’t blame her. By now the lost boys around the camp have stopped to see what was going on. Why their leader was practically in tears, holding his petrified daughter and carrying her to his tent. I wouldn’t be able to answer them. I’m broken. And in need to be fixed, and the only beings capable of doing so…one is gone, while the other doesn’t want to be near me.
I reached my tent, closing it off so that we would not be interrupted. I set her down finally, only for her to run to the far side of the space, away from me, curling into a tight ball, whimpering to herself.
Sighing, I crouched down to her level, slowly making my way closer to her, trying not to frighten her more. “Y/n…sweetheart?” I called out softly, her little frame shaking at the sound of my voice. I was close enough to touch her, my hand softly stroking her hair, only for her head to bury deeper into her knees, a shout of terror escaping her mouth, making me flinch. “Please speak to me love…please?”
“D-Daddy n-no…love me…” She cried, still refusing not to look at me.
“No that’s not true..daddy loves you very, he does.” The words I spoke felt unfamiliar coming from my mouth. “Daddy’s just…he’s just very upset, that’s all. He didn’t mean to hurt you, baby.” I reached toward her again, this time she didn’t cower away. “Daddy…daddy misses mommy. A lot. A-And daddy he’s just a little…lost.”
“L-Like…lost boys?” She turned her head slightly toward me, sniffling while a few more tears slid down her cheeks. I smiled softly at her, happy to see her e/c eyes again.
“Yes, sweetheart. Like the lost boys. After you were born, mommy went away. I blamed you for it, which was wrong, and unfair.”
“I kill mommy?” She innocently asked, more tears cascaded down her face.
“No! No of course not…it was a stupid thing to believe. She died…to give you a life, here, with me. And I’ve wasted four years…being selfish and cold to you. But that’s all I’ve ever been, except with mommy. And without her here to help me love you…I turned heartless. But, after seeing me hurt you, the first contact we’ve had in a long time, I…I can’t live this way no longer. You are a piece of your mother, the only physical piece I have left of her, and I refuse to push you away anymore. I love you, Y/n. You are my princess and queen, my one priority from now on, my one love. No one, no thing shall harm you, not even me.”
By now, she was now fully turned in my direction, giving me her full attention. But she was still hiding herself in the corner, still unsure about the whole situation. Coming up with an idea, I smile warmly at her, reaching my hand out slowly, so not to scare her. “Can I give you something?”
She looked at my hand longingly, still a little bit skeptical. Crawling out from her spot in the corner, she placed her tiny and now bruised hand into my large one. The pang of guilt had returned my chest, as I stared down at the damage I’ve caused her. Placing a light kiss to her hand, the bruises slowly started to heal up, making her large e/c eyes stare up at me in awe. Smiling at her again, I pick her up and rest her on my hip, walking over towards the side of the room where Y/m/n used to sleep.
I came to the little treasure chest I gave her for her birthday one day. Reaching inside my shirt, I pulled out a key, unlocking the treasure chest; inside it was this beautiful green charm that came with the box, that had a little pan flute as the charm shape. Pulling it out, I held it toward Y/n, seeing her big eyes light up at the necklace.
“See this? This was mommy’s favorite trinket, that daddy gave her. I gave it to her on her birthday, you should have seen the look on her face. I’ve never see someone smile so big as she did, her cheeks looked like they were gonna pop!” I slightly bounced her at the exaggeration, making her giggle. The sound alone made my heart flutter. Was this..love am I feeling? “Now…I’m trusting you in wearing it and..keeping it safe, for mommy and daddy. Okay?”
She looked up at me, nodding her head rapidly, making me smile yet again. “Can you dry those tears for me?” She quickly wiped her eyes with the backs of her hands, sniffling for final effect. I sat her on top of the dresser, placing the charm necklace around her little neck. It barely fits her, but she’ll grow into it. Taking a good look at her…she looked just like her mommy.
“Thank you, daddy,” She smiled up at me, a warm feeling traveled up my spine. I shrugged slightly in response, grinning down at her.
“Anything for daddy’s princess. From here and forever, you shall be treated like one. I love you, Y/n, my new good luck charm.”
She reached up for me to hold her, which I gladly did. Her little body fit perfectly in my own, as she snuggled deeper into my embrace. The feeling of this hug felt all to familiar. I opened my eyes, and nearly choked at what I saw in the mirror.
Instead of Y/n being in the place in my arms…
It was her.
