I don't think I'm really the best person to ask for these kinds of things, since I don't really know what I'm doing half of the time lol. But I'll try my best to explain.
The best advice I have is to look through others edits or to just search for references. Though, a few things I think others would need to keep in mind is that, when editing the skintone, make sure the palms of the hands (In a sense that the hands aren't covered) are a bit lighter than the skin tone that you're editing the character to be. Don't make it too light, though. Also, please don't make the skin too red or orange or ashy. This is self-explanatory.
Hopefully that made sense. There may be a few errors when doing it the first time and that's ok, I think. It'll get better once you get the hang of it. :)
