I loved the Ever Crisis Academy AU so much! I even doodled bonus frames for the scene :D
Her quiet is sweetârare a thing to find her so momentarily speechless, & twice as precious when it was a moment leaning on the positive side of things. He takes advantage to keep the mood light & afloat as best as he could, a gentle grin carving itself along his lips as he glances her way, taking note of the way the wetness of fresh fallen rain gathers along the ends of her hair on a few stray strands. A few beads fall, & heâs reminded of her shivering with a soft huff. He hardly waits for her response before heâs already tugging the side of his jacket off by the edge, slipping it over a shoulder & then moving to uncover his other side.
âFine? ReallyâŠâ He trails off, amusement bleeding from him faintly, his voice is kept quiet, not malicious or rude in the way he teases as he steps in to lay it over her shoulders. It wasnât much, but it provided some warmth for the florist to gather herself from the rain.
It near swallows her up, not entirely dwarfing her but⊠it was a little comical to watch the way she stiffens when he covers her & takes a step back, before she tests the feel of the odd leather & feathered jacket mix over her frame.
But, she wasnât shivering as much anymore. Small wins where they could find them. Though in his opinion, getting a little drenched from the rain was the least of their concerns. More a blessing if he were honest. Though nostalgia pings around his chest at the location theyâre in. A mish-mash of feelings & memories barraging about his head from the inside, merging atop one another in a way that gives him the startings of a headache which he does well to mask with his usual well-kept expression in place.
Winhill, Matronâs Orphanage and Radiant Garden all blur at the edges, tall stone & ivory buildings standing among the decay & destruction of a time long passed with a downpour overhead⊠familiar, & he canât help but wonder how he seems to find himself in these kinds of repeating situations. He allows the memories to pass, noting how they were from a life he didnât live anymore.
As he moves about to gather some dry crates (âUnfortunately emptied and raised before theyâd found themâŠâ), Leon moves them over to the driest part of the alcove, scouring for the bits of wood he can find lingering about in the form of stray shrapnel and splintered broken wood. He guides Aerith to settle against one of the makeshift chairs, nudging their bags with the materials scavenged over for her to keep safe as he works.
âDefinitely firestarters & jackets. I think theyâll let us off easy since we found quite a bit of things.â He snorts. âBut, hey, I think this is the first rain weâve seen here, yeah? I didnât even know it could still be⊠normal like this.â
Years of being situated in Traverse Town, where not much seemed to change, & the time of day stayed in an almost eternal night. It was more than a little jarring. But he was happy all the same to note how the sky changed colours, knowing they had fully restored things to the point theyâd been beforeâenough to experience actual weather again! A miracle, one he was happy to indulge in even if it came at the price of some brief suffering on their end from time to time.
At Aerithâs gentle spoken comment, the way she looks up at him following his gestures⊠it makes him pause, a physical stutter as he swallows with a light, curious cant of his head.Â
But itâs quickly smoothed down, something blossoming & unfurling in his chest like a new bloom. Giving a light shrug, his own gaze is soft as he takes a seat next to her, humming playfully before he leans against her side.
His voice dips, pointed cheekiness attempting to colour his tone & failing.Â
â& why is that? Is it my infectious humour?â Definitely not. Heâs been told his jokes had a tendency to be almost painfully dry & flat. One could dream though.
Aerith's eyes widened in genuine surprise. "Oh." The word escaped in little more than a breath as the weight of his jacket settled across her shoulders. Her fingers instinctively caught the lapels before it could slip, snuggling into the warmth it provided.
The leather was still warm from where he'd worn it, the lingering heat chasing away the chill that had settled on her shoulders before. She pulled it a little closer around herself, unable to stop the smile that bloomed across her face.
"It's warm." She laughed softly, the sound nearly swallowed by the steady rhythm of the rain as she glanced down at herself. "Does it look good on me?" She poked the question playfully, peering up at him with a glint in her eyes. It was almost funny, seeing herself wrapped in something that so unmistakably belonged to him."Thank you," she said sincerely, "I promise I'll give it back"
Aerith settled against the makeshift crate, tossing another small thanks as she tucked the goods away where they wouldn't get wet. "I think Yuffie will still find something to tease us about," she mused, the corners of her mouth lifting. "She'll probably say we should've thought to bring a whole cabin back instead." But Aerith did make a mental note, that trips that could end up like this deserved a little more forethought...and maybe some supplies on a just in case. After all, she couldn't always steal his jacket in the rain.
Her smile lingered before her gaze drifted toward the curtain of rain beyond the shelter. "...I think you're right." There was something almost mesmerizing about it. The steady patter against the wet earth, the surprise of being caught in a storm. "It feels..." She searched for the right word, watching droplets gather at the edge of the roof before tumbling into puddles below. "Peaceful....Yup, like...when its over the world starts fresh again..."
Leon settled next to her with a hum, close enough she can feel the warmth from his side. Without a thought she settled into the lean, content to share the small space with him. She tipped her head just enough to look up at him, green eyes dancing with amusement.
"Oh, definitely your humor," she said with exaggerated sincerity. "I don't know how I've survived all these years without your riveting commentary." Her smile softened, her head tilting just enough to let him catch the expression on her face.
She was teasing him, but mostly because it was always fun when moments like this happened. It seemed more often then not, they were finding themselves in situations like this together.
"And that charm of yours..." For a flicker of a second, her gaze dipped the curve on his lips, her heart giving a small lurch before she quickly snapped her gaze back to his. Aerith wasn't entirely sure when the teasing had become something else, although she suspected it happened when neither one of them was paying attention. It had certainly caught her off guard when she noticed it before, and now it simply lived in her chest. "I'm completely helpless against it" Aerith gave his shoulder a gentle nudge, her cheeks dusked in a shade of pink.

âlook at me." @grieverled for my museâs reaction to yours grabbing mine by the chin and forcing mine to look at them during a tense / highly emotional moment.Â
Chaos had swallowed Radiant Garden whole. Buildings lay shattered beneath clouds of stone and dust, streets once filled with life reduced to fields of broken masonry. Fires raged unchecked, their heat forcing survivors into narrower and narrower paths, while the cries of the frightened echoed through the city like prayers cast toward an uncaring sky. It was nothing short of devastation in their home.
Her palms pressed against the brick wall, fingertips dragging across the rough stone as she followed it as quickly as her feet would allow. The smoke was heavy, thick in a way Aerith had never experienced before, burning her lungs with every frantic breath.
Lost.
That was the only word that came to mind. She was so, so, lost.
Aerith stumbled through the masses as they all ran with nowhere to go, bodies colliding in desperate attempts to escape streets that seemed to vanish beneath falling rubble and crumbling concrete. Every instinct screamed at her to stop, to help, to reach for every outstretched hand she passed but the destruction came faster than she could fix.
Another explosion split the air.
The ground lurched violently beneath her feet. She barely caught herself before something seized her around the waist. "Whaâ" She was pulled sharply sideways, her shoulder striking solid brick as another body followed, caging her into the narrow shelter of an alcove just as a deafening crack sounded overhead.
The building adjacent from them collapsed.
Stone exploded outward, shards of concrete and glass pelting the mouth of the alcove as a wave of dust swallowed everything beyond it. When the dust settled enough for her vision to clear, Aerith found herself staring at the familiar black leather stretched across broad shoulders.
Leon. He had planted himself squarely between her and the street, one arm braced against the wall above her head while the other remained around her waist, shielding her from whatever else might fall.
"Leon!?"
Her pulse kicked painfully against her ribs. "There are peopleâ" Aerith instinctively tried to slip beneath his arm. His grip caught her wrist before she made it a single step. "I have to help them!" Another tremor rolled beneath their feet. She twisted again, trying to move past him. His hand tightened around her.
"No." The word was so sharp that she froze. She looked up just as his free hand came to her face, fingers settling beneath her chin. There was nothing rough about the touch, but it was firm enough that she couldn't look away as he gently tilted her head toward him.
"Look at me, Aerith."
His voice was tight, hanging almost into frantic. His eyes swept across her face, down her shoulders, her arms, searching so quickly she realized he wasn't trying to stop her anymore. Her gaze snapped to his, her lip trembling as the reality of the situation started to fall on her. She would of been in the direct path of that building if it hadn't been for him. His gaze was assessing, carefully examining each scratch and bruise that Aerith hadn't noticed before.
"You're here" she whispered after a moment, still caught off guard by the look in his eyes. "I'm... I'm alright...I think" She wasn't sure, and truthfully Aerith was nervous to admit that she hurt, especially at her hip. Her body relaxed in his touch, unaware of the tension she'd been holding until this moment. "I was scared" She admitted, her face falling back into his chest. "And I was lost, again"

With the recovery of their old home still being underway, a lot of the buildings around Hollow Bastion were still under construction. Thickened mud, dampened & often flooded streets filled in broken debris continue to litter every inch, but it does little to make the stubborn Lion give up hope. It spoke volumes knowing that if they could reclaim & restore past lost worlds⊠then their older homes could be brought back as well. For the first time in ages, his heart feels lighter, his demeanor more secure & steady.
Their impromptu perusal of supplies & the scenery hadnât been planned in advance, but⊠they both had a tendency to get restless and impatient if left standing around for too long, so between the breaks in storms, theyâd taken on a scouting mission of sorts to figure out if there were anymore supplies they could gather & bring back to their main camp at Merlinâs.
What theyâd found while out was⊠a surprise. Blooms & flora were hard to come by, especially back in Traverse Town. Finding it here in a space where most things were broken & run down in the aftermath of its destruction was oddly symbolic, though, maybe they shouldnât have gotten so cocky in continuing out further & further. By the time theyâre about ready to head back, big & dark storm clouds have already gathered overhead, the beginning rumbles & faint spritzing of rain more than enough a reminder they needed to haul ass or get chewed out by the others for coming back soaked and cold.
Heâs tailing after Aerith, watching her footsteps as her pink dress sways like air behind her. She picks her steps carefully, trying to avoid the clusters and puddles of mud and old rain beginning to build through the streetways. With her next step, an excited sound & a half started pointing in the direction of an old shop with its roof still intactâsheâs careening off balance.
Leon reaches out before she has a chance to fall further, apologizing softly under his breath, though it comes out more gruff than intended. He keeps his grip steady on her arm, helping her with his other one as he takes the lead in guiding them to the found shelter with a hushed snort.
âDonât worry about it.â
Leon is falsely nonchalant, catching the sheepish look with a tiny quirk of Aerithâs lips. Her eyes drift down to where he keeps his hold firmly in place, an auburn brow arching high before she gives the smallest, barest hint of a teasing smile.
Her tone is sing-song-like, cheeky and bright in the fashion only her voice could be. & despite it, it still draws from it a sharp tug of fondness from the hearth of his chest, better expressed through the scoffed chuckle he returns, & a pointed roll of his eyes.
Before he can retort properly, sheâs huffing & moving in front, dragging him by the hand further beneath their chosen cover. He allows it, giving her hand a delicate squeeze.
âOf course I am.â He answers bluntly, deadpan with a distant touch of amusement glinting along his edges. âI didnât think it was that easy to sweep you off your feet.â
Giving her a light shove once heâs closed the distance enough, the fall of overhead rain finally ceases, & heâs all too thankful for his leather jacket, though he canât help but mourn the shortness of it. ' (âI should have kept the sleevesâŠâ)
âGood thing you found this place before we really got caught in that. You cold?â
Aerith laughed softly as warmth bloomed across her cheeks, her gaze dropping to the ground in a vain attempt to hide the blush threatening to betray her. She never expected the comment, or the sudden thought of how Leon would try to sweep her off her feet. It wouldn't be easy, but she had faith that if he wanted too, he would. She rarely saw a challenge he couldn't meet head on.
She cleared her throat, grateful when he gave her a gentle shove beneath the shelter of the overhang, the pounding rain fading to a distant roar beyond its edge. At his question, Aerith looked up with an easy smile. "Cold?" she echoed lightly. "Oh, I'm fiâ"
A shiver stole the rest of the sentence from her lips. She laughed at herself, wrapping her arms tightly around her middle as if that alone might chase away the chill that had settled deep into her bones. She regretted immediately not even thinking of grabbing her jacket.
"...Alright," she admitted with a sheepish smile, peeking up at him through damp strands of hair. "You caught me." Her shoulders lifted in a small, defeated shrug. "...I'm very cold." A hard lesson learned, that she needed to pack at least for sun or rain. "Next time maybe we should plan better. Rain jackets, umbrellas. Fire starter"
It had been worth it, however, to find exactly what they'd been searching for. Though she imagined their triumphant return would lose some of its shine if the two of them arrived dripping wet and sneezing by morning. Aerith prayed they did not actually catch a cold. What a bummer that would be! Aerith laughed softly under her breath, hugging herself a little tighter. "I suppose success always comes with a catch," Her head turned, her smile softer as she looked up at him. "Getting caught in the rain isn't so bad when the company is you"
[ steady ] sender grabs receiver's arm to steady them before they fall over đđ @grieverled
Perhaps sheâd been a little overzealous in her discovery, although they'd been searching for somewhere to take cover from the storm for the better part of an hour. Her footing slipped before she had the chance to catch herself. The rain making the ground wet and thick with mud. Leonâs hand closed around her arm, as she stumbled backwards, grateful that he had been paying attention. Aerith peered back, a sheepish expression and an apology on her lips.
For a moment, she forgot entirely what she was supposed to say.
Her gaze dropped to where his fingers still rested against her skin before lifting back to his face, a small, almost teasing smile touching her lips. âCareful,â she murmured. âSomeone might think you were worried about me.â Aerith straightened, regretting it entirely. He'd been warm, a striking contrast to the rain that was still falling. "But I am worried about you, come on. It's freezing" Her fingers wrapped around his free hand, beginning to tug them towards cover.
