I fucking hate this part of India I fucking hate having to hear from my entire lighter-than-me family that I’m pretty for a dark girl and not to go into the sun because I’ll get dark I fucking hate how deeply engrained light=pretty and dark=ugly is in Indian society I hate going to India and seeing faces like mine on the streets and having all of them aim for something entirely different on billboards and ads I am so angry right now this is a children’s book they teach this to us so young this crusty ass aunty i barely knew stripped me naked and rubbed me with lemons in the bath and made me sit there all itchy and uncomfortable when I was 5 because of the myth that it would lighten my skin I want to burn up the world whyyyy does my country’s people hate themselves why do you make us, your own people, hate ourselves from such a young age
