For comics we focus on the 80s, 2000s ( X-treme X-Men and some of Claremont's run on the main series ), and X-Men: Legacy/Mike Carey's work around 2006 ( the children of the vault stuff ). I've read basically every appearance of Rogue up to 2018 where things get spotty because the writing gets Mid in my opinion and so more modern comics will be mined 𝒔𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒚. Also pulling a little from X-Men: Evolution & X-Men '97 but not much. Blog is almost exclusively plotting based.

While Anna Marie is Rogue's birth name it's something she hasn't used since she was very small, didn't remember for a long time, and has no real attachment too, in some ways it's closer to a dead name than anything else and she's very uncomfortable with people using it. Rogue has a very set concept of who she is out of necessity. Rogue is Rogue. Anna Marie is not Rogue. Please do not call her Anna Marie, the only people who really can are those like her mothers, Xavier and maybe her partners but it's the kinda thing that would need to be discussed before it was whipped out.
Rogue and the X-Men
Rogue has a weird relationship with the X-Men. She goes to them begging for help at 17 and is met with hostility and an ultimatum. She goes from being a child soldier for her mothers to a child soldier for Xavier. Even when the initial hostility dies down, Rogue's relationships are very fraught and she's generally kept at a certain distance intentionally or no. We see on several occasions in comics set during this time (and when anyone cares to remember how her powers work and effect her life) Storm (and others but I remember Storm the best because it was a plot point) recoil from Rogue and generally be scared of being too physically close to her.
Rogue's powers both make her a mutant and are exactly the kind of thing that make mutants want to keep her at an arm's length. She painfully steals your mutation and some of your identity, it's natural for people to not want to get too close. But it does create issues. She may be considered a valued member etc etc but how she's treated socially inside of mutant circles is inconsistent. Some see her power as inherently evil, some are just scared of being touched and it shows. Even when people do their best to include her she can tell when people are scared and trying to act like they're not and it incentivizes her to stay on the fringes. So while she has a few people in the X-Men she's close to and loves dearly she's largely an outsider from them socially.
Rogue's Politics and Ethics
Following on that last part another reason Rogue is on the fringes of x-society is her politics. While she's unlearned some of the radicalism she was raised on she's still more on the end of people like Mystique and Magneto because no matter what you say about them, their methods etc — they have some very good points. Rogue's own life experiences in places like Genosha and the Morlock Massacre, and her work as both a member of the Brotherhood and an X-Man have led her to holding some of Xavier's optimism and desire to solve things peacefully when able while also being more than willing to kill if needed. She's usually not as radical as her mother or Magneto but she's also one of the first to suggest something radical or Kinda Iffy as a plan of action. Basically, if Wolverine asked her to join the X-Force she would say yes without blinking.
Along with this Rogue's ethics are inconsistent. She contradicts herself and seems to function almost entirely on vibes from the outside and she knows this. This is in large part a bi-product of her powers. Her powers leave her with huge amounts of accumulated psychic residue from everyone she touches and there's very little indication anyone actually helps her with this in the comics (Xavier even calls himself out on this in the comics lol rip). This means that even while she's working very hard to simply Be Rogue™, her thoughts, feeling, opinions and memories can be affected by that residue without her being aware. So her opinions and ethics can change within a breath. She is aware of this. It's part of why she HATES when people try to use her as a tie-breaker.
Rogue is Mentally Ill
Related to the ethics thing and how psychic residue effects it. Rogue is not stable mentally. Even when she's the only person in her head she's not really 100%. While there's literally nothing in real life that maps out to her issues the closest would likely be the very board categories of dementia, delusion and psychosis related illnesses or DID. Rogue can wake up utterly convinced she is a completely different person and then have a meltdown when she sees her own face in the mirror. Her understanding of the world can be extremely confused and disjointed. For all her propensity to loner behavior and isolation she's realistically someone who actually does need something like a caretaker or Designated Person™ to help her keep track of things and work with her when she struggles. This can leave her open to manipulation/exploitation and why she tends to go back to her mothers or the X-Men.
Rogue has a tendency to Go Rogue
In a lot of ways Rogue is actually very reliable and dependable. If you're on the job with her she will not make any totally bonkers harebrained decisions. Even if she goes off script it's likely for a good reason and is thought thru in her own weird ass way. She's also prone to bugging out when emotionally/mentally distraught or feeling socially unwanted/pressured etc. Her two biggest reactions are "beat the shit out of em" or "runaway and never ever come back". Both of these cause huge problems for everyone. She's been doing this since she was 6 and she's not changing now. She can also just get an idea in her head and fuck off on her own to investigate. Like you cannot guarantee Rogue'll be to the meeting on time but you can be sure she's On Her Bullshit in one way or another.

" She says voice rougher than usual and not revealing an OUNCE of the relief she feels . This is why she opted to hit up EMMA over trying to sneak back into the mansion or find somewhere else . She didn't want lectures or anxious hovering or whatever . She didn't want GUILT TRIPS over the correct kinds of violence or whatever the topic might be . She'd been in a situation , she'd resolved the situation . She was banged up but didn't need more than wash , Tylenol , some band-aids and an ice pack or two .
She does her best to keep the mess to herself a seemingly IMPOSSIBLE task with how dedicated the other woman is to that FROST WHITE AESTHETIC . It was a dedication to a vibe she respected even if she thought it was fucking maniacal . At least it didn't feel like a medical center , more like modern nepo baby Caligua nightclub . She makes it to the bathroom and hesitates in the center of it .
" Uh , can Ah have a TRASHBAG or something to dump these in ? figure you don't want me just dropping all this on your floors . " She gestures loosely to herself and the multiple layers of now blood soaked hoodie , shirts , leggings and pants . Even her socks are squishy . She's not looking forward to trying to clean out her boots later. She's also not looking forward to losing all her layers , she doubts anything of Emma's will fit her and it defeats everything to put her own clothes back on . Maybe if she has something REALLY spandex-y Rogue could make it work . " Also fair warning , I'm probably gonna decimate your conditioner . "
" Well SHIT Logan give a girl a warning 'fore ya BLINDSIDE em with the feel good stuff, you gettin' sentimental in yer old age ? " She trying to keep it light, like she's totally unmoved. It's bullshit and she's just hopin' he has the decency not to call her on it. It's a coin toss, Logan's always been good at getting under her SKIN.

That girl ain't better than her on this front , NEITHER of them is free of sin .

Rogue laughs some more clutching her prize like a kid on Christmas. " Rogue just ain't a NAME sugah ! Ah'm WILD like that. " Her tone is warmly sarcastic , they both know that lifting a beer is the LEAST of her crimes . She cracks it open and takes a victory sip . She knew he was going easy on her but it didn't tamp down on the fun of it , you took your happy where you got it and she wasn't giving none of hers up right now . " Don't worry , Ah think there's somma those fruity lemonade-seltzer things left for ya ! "
