I'm a sucker for Family Fluff and the feels double when it happen to involve my favorite ships as parents. Portwell as Parents is such a niche and specific trope that I'm craving.
"Dear Theodosia" from Hamilton the Musical is such a sweet lullaby that I can imagine EJ singing to his child. I'm currently reading Aroundthewaygirl's "It Happened One Night" and my heart is melting at the idea of EJ singing a lullaby and lulling baby Serena to sleep.

Last night I had a strange dream that's a combination of @aroundthewaygirlao3's Portwell stories "It Starts (Again) with Us" and "A Second Chance is All" but it's Teacher!EJ/Single Mom!Gina AU
Basically EJ is a preschool teacher for a few years now. ASCIA students (Jake, Sierra, Lucy, Connor) are aged down and his students here. His kids all adore him and he's their human jungle gym.
Amaya is his new student here, and gets along with her new classmates. EJ didn't take long to figure out Amaya is Gina's kid since they look so much alike. Cues surprise reunion when Gina fetches her daughter from school.
Gina is a single parent here. I believe Ricky/Gina are either divorced or in a complicated Co-parenting arrangement in my dream. Ricky does visit Amaya from time to time. He is a good parent tho, but he's definitely the "Fun" parent to Gina's "Responsible" (think Kurt and Carrey Martin from Suite Life of Zack and Cody)
I forgot what happens next because my alarm woke me up, but it's such a cute/sweet dream.
Also: the preschoolers were playing pretend at some point. It was Ricky's turn to pick up Amaya for some father-daughter bonding time. The classmates all saw Ricky and declared he's the 'Evil Pudding Stealing Dragon' on sight. One of em (either Jake or Sierra) decked twigs in his direction.
LMAO, I think this is the first time I've infiltrated someone's dreams! 💀💀💀 I love it.
And "Evil Pudding Stealing Dragon" is GOLD.
I think it's partially because I was rereading both of the mentioned Portwell fics, and watching "Gakuen Babysitters" before I went to sleep.
The kids were petty and playful, Ricky was in the wrong place at the wrong time to earn that nickname

Once Ted turned 20 and he'd gotten a job at CCRP, he took Pete out of their parent's house and into his own.
He couldn't find anyone to take care of a three-year-old Pete everyday while he went to work, so more often then not, there would be a little toddler playing with dinosaur toys under his desk.
Charlotte thought this was absolutely adorable and would come in at least once a day when this happened with small baked treats for Pete. This was how Ted and Charlotte became closer, but that's a story for a different day.
Bill would sometimes bring Alice in to play with Pete. Alice was almost five, but would love to play Barbies: The Dino Apocalypse with Pete. Bill has many, many pictures of this.
Paul would only really see the gang at break and despite his insistence that he didn't like kids, Pete might have been the exception. Pete would be most commonly found on Paul's lap, eating a sandwich stolen from Ted and introducing Paul to all of his toy dinosaurs.
Paul might not have understood a word he was saying but would play along like it was the most interesting thing he'd ever heard.
hatchetverse but paul accidentally becomes everyone's parental figure. lex & hannah's? sure, they deserve a good parent who'll look out for them. stephanie lauter? yeah, why not, her dad highkey sucks. richie? absolutely, could even make them be biologically related for the lols. he meets peter through ted, they're chill (potential for angst if ted disappears in this iteration of the multiverse). he's the guy alice goes to about all of her stresses and worries- the 'cool uncle'. he meets ruth at the coffee shop where he sees emma before they have a concrete relationship, ruth is very vocal about how she wishes she could have a partner too. he could be even max freaking jagerman's unofficial dad (he does not think max has to fight off "one lousy skele'un" to be worth something). he solves grace chasity's religious guilt with "yeah no sex is normal" and she views him as a source for all advice on the matter after that. paulkins but paul is a tired dad and emma doesn't find out he has like 50 kids until they've been dating a couple months and one of them randomly runs into his house. she introduces him to tim and he just rolls with it. it's another nephew, okay, neat. he's not great with kids but he finds himself with loads of them somehow anyway. then they all face off against sadistic eldritch gods and multiple cults together like a family. what more could you want?

I'm totally down with this AU where Paul becomes the Uncle/Dad figure to all of Hachetfield's youths. Maybe throw in Ziggy since they work for Emma in Perkins Buds?

Gina: Look, whatever I might think of you right now EJ, you have helped inspire everyone here.

Ricky: EJ, we've all agreed that the people who work behind the scenes on the docu series are assholes, not people.
so what if the pre-season 1 Drama club including their parents were suddenly transported to this theater with Maddox, Jet, Emmy, Val and all their friends from camp and some North High kids. They were then there to watch High School Musical the Musical The Series from Season 1 to 4 and all that..

my irl friend and I finally hate watched through all of s4, and our watching experience was basically summarized in the following things:
Getting rlly sad at not seeing EJ every single second on screen
"This plot is so Glee"
"WHO ARE YOU WHY ARE YOU HERE" at random characters that appeared
Yelling slay every time Gina's mom opened her mouth
Ricky Bowen hate club (we realized we just love joshua bassett and actually hate Ricky)
Realizing this show has no real consequences for actions for anyone except for EJ
My friend (a casual viewer) saying Ashlyn likes Maddox and asking what happened to Big Red, me replying with "this hasn't been addressed, they're still together"
"Sofia Wylie is stunning"
Her: ARE YOU GETTING EMOTIONAL RN? Me: I HEAR JOSHUA BASSETT TALKING AND I CRY
Getting annoyed at the rina scenes
Googling the ai ej cover of scream after ricky's version (we usually love joshua's voice and covers, but this one did not fit his voice at all)
Random pause to search caitlin reilly's tiktok and google sofia wylie's height (she looks super tall 'cause we're short queens)
Agreeing the cheating plot sucked and ruined seb's and Big red's characters
"Realizing this show has no real consequences for actions for anyone except for EJ" You were so real for this one! Honestly, other characters get consequences for their bad actions, but many times they get away with things, while EJ basically breaths and the narrative shows him as the bad guy. Jk jk, but srsly now. Every time EJ makes a mistake, he is held accountable for his mistake and the narrative is actually really harsh with him sometimes. I mean, Nini and Gina did the same mistake as him to not tell their bf/gf about leaving (and in EJ's case he was actually fighting for staying). Comparing how the narrative treated them and how it treated EJ is just... yikes... It is obv biased and as a viewer it really annoys me to see the narrative being so obv at playing favorites.
Yes! Most characters have consequences, but they're not real, long-term things.
Seb and BR, for example, cheated on their partners, and it was brushed off as little quirk that happened. Seb was called a sweet little angel so many times, sure Carlos was upset, but only for a minute, and then they were happy together again.
Ashlyn basically emotionally cheated on BR too, but it was brushed off quickly as "omg you cheated on me? I almost cheated on you! What a funny coincidence."
Everyone in the school play except for Gina and Emmy was extremely irresponsible, missing rehearsals and being busy with other things that they literally got the show canceled. But don't worry, there are no real stakes here, so the show was saved, and Gina and Ricky got to play Troy and Gabriella despite both of them missing countless rehearsals and Ricky being the most irresponsible person ever (he's never on time, he barely knows his lines, he has a 1.8 GPA, do I really have to keep going?).
I knew this season was going to be mostly fan service, but it was still weird to watch the other characters be caricatures of themselves while EJ is over here living in the real world, working four jobs, wearing Birkenstocks and getting himself through college because he "parted ways" with his dad.
It's just an interesting observation that for EJ, there are real consequences of not paying enough attention to your partner (she breaks up with him), not do exactly as his dad says (he gets disowned), it's what would happen to a real person in his place. I'm not upset that he's facing real stakes because that makes his story 10x more interesting as a viewer, it's just a little unfair that he gets the realistic treatment while the other characters get to live in a fantasy world in which the things you do don't really have consequences.
This could be a reason why EJ is one of the most complex and developed characters on the show. He has always had to face real consequences for his actions, he's forced to learn from them. Ricky on the other hand gets everything handed to him on the silver platter, so he has not meaningful character development because he doesn't have to. He gets everything, so he's not forced by life to face up to his actions.
I'm not complaining about what they did with EJ this season, in fact, I'm so happy with the treatment he got. He appears to finally be happy, living his life as himself. This is all I wanted.

One thing that makes me sad about Jay’s character is how clear the novels make it that he’s a great actor. He can put on the happy-go-lucky act and hide the truth from everyone, even his closest friends.
He calls Jafar “Jafar, prince of pajamas” and pretends that’s all that bothers him.
You can tell he measures himself to the others. Jafar never gaslit him to believe he was ugly, never said he wasn’t worthy of his real name, never hit him and sexually abused him. Sure, Jafar never fed him, but he solved that on his own. And sure, Jafar made him risk his life stealing from hardened criminals, but Jay always came out fine. So what does he have to complain about compared to the others?
He makes the others laugh and protects them and comforts them, all the while refusing to let them see how much he’s truly hurting.
