Donβt think Iβve posted these here, enjoy! draw: https://ko-fi.com/s/f90edb7d6b paint: https://ko-fi.com/s/ca9c5d1cef (I may or may not start using Tumblr more. Hi!)
Two things I want artists to consider:
Ugly Art is not a state of being
Ugliness is inevitable no matter your skill level
Your favorite artist is fucking up the contrast, they are over-blending, they are applying odd lighting, the only difference between you and them is the ability to understand and fix those things from experience
Improvement should be about learning to correct mistakes when they happen and working toward a process thats comfortable for you
Trying to escape your ~ugly art~, being ultra strict with your expectations, chasing the chameleon ass tastes & trends of social media, you will grow to hate this shit and burn out π©

A comic to try and sort through some difficult feelings about being an artist and a reminder to not forget who you are.
begging and pleading on my knees and taking arrows to see art of fat men loving each other the way I see art of fat women doing so.
Since this has gotten a few notes I have to say I donβt just mean not skinny! I donβt just mean donβt have abs or have a little bit of pudge!! Iβm talking about double, triple chins!! Thick arms and thighs!! Big bellies!! I want to see soft art of fat men, obese men! They are out there loving and marrying and kissing and being as sickeningly sweet and gay as any skinny young gay!!
Hi, I have a question if it's ok! Do you have any tips or know any guides on drawing animals with open mouths? I know how muzzles and expressions work when it's closed but once it comes to an animal talking/roaring/etc I just don't really know how to approach it. Someone sent me the Etherington Brothers guide but I still struggle to figure out how to actually construct the sketch. If that makes sense? Thank you, I really admire your art <3
I think the most important thing (at least if youre going for a relatively naturalistic style) is remembering how the bones in the skull work: the top of the muzzle is connected to the brain case and doesnt move independently, and the jaw hinges near the back of the skull a bit in front of the ear. Excuse my questionable sketches lol I recommend looking at the real thing instead
Because of Geometry(tm) the chin will move on an arc because the jaw rotates around a point. Disclaimer that I donβt really construct my sketches quite like this normally but itβs good to think about the building blocks of the structure when youβre learning to draw an animal.
The placement of the skin/muscle covering the cheeks and jaw can be a bit trickier to explain because theyβre pretty flexible, and when doing expressions and such it comes down to experimenting and anthropomorphism, especially with cats since they have have pretty immobile faces compared to humans and even some other animals (and there are lots of tutorials out there for stylizing and drawing expressions!)
