“she was brought up in a single parent household, her father having walked out on them when she was only five. loathing the pitying stares she’d receive, jiao has chosen to avoid talking about her family. unlike many seem to assume, she didn’t suffer from his absence ‒ she had a loving grandfather, and uncles, who filled that role perfectly. jiao’s love of dance was sparked by a performance of swan lake she’d seen on tv. the fourteen year old girl sat there, completely and utterly enthralled. she wanted to be able to move with such precision, elegance and gracefulness, too. as the piece neared its ending, she rushed to call her mother, begging to attend ballet lessons. after an arduous discussion that lasted twenty minutes, her mother finally gave in to her wish, and although jiao knew it was only to prevent her from getting further on her mother’s nerves, it didn’t make her any less grateful. in fact, she started to bawl her eyes out, promising she’d bring her “honor’’. yep, that’s how her path to becoming a prima ballerina began!”

Wooseok has always thought it was foolish of them to grade people to their own standard, selfishly at that. Regardless, since he was little, he was often compared to his older siblings whom achievements are above mediocrity. Looking back, Wooseok wasn’t a bad student, but he, in comparison to his older siblings, wasn’t sociable enough, wasn’t knowledgeable enough, wasn’t active enough, he was …. mediocre. Oh, Wooseok did try numerous times to break through and meet his parents’ heightening expectations, he was practically walking the path they paved for him until middle school, but it was just not working. Or maybe he was impatient, he was fifteen after all. Along the way, he figured that the burden placed on him is far more manageable if he just build a wall for himself, within himself. Self-prioritization. At the age of nineteen, he opted to move to a different city and enrolled himself to a university course his parents never knew he applied for. Wooseok is a realistic person, he do not and will not ask for much. He just want to be content with himself and maybe, just maybe, push himself above the line of mediocrity?”

“No, Sungkyung’s life isn’t a sob story or any of the sort. Her family wasn’t poor, she wasn’t pressured into doing anything, nor was she bullied. In fact, she lived rather comfortably, her family was close and tight-knit. She seemed to excel in anything she did and she was her peers’ subject of envy. When her grandfather introduced her to photography and film, it was almost like she would dedicate her entire life to the art. Everybody thought she would do amazing like she usually did, but the closer she got to ‘real life,’ the more she got a taste of it. At KNUA, she came across these individuals who were far more adept at it than she was. Life tasted even more bitter when, after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Film, none of the companies she applied to ever called her back. Was she truly no good? Someone was always better than she was. She hasn’t stopped trying however - she’s currently freelancing as a photographer - but she’s also in a slump. Things simply weren’t working out as planned.”

She landed a few gigs, a catalog here or a endorsement deal there, but it wasn’t fully paying the bills. Her parents, a well off and known family wasn’t happy with any these decisions. But she was ”triple F”, fierce, femme and phenomenal and was going to prove them wrong. Naomi Campbell. No. Tyra Banks? Not quite. Adriana Lima? Eh. Kim Dasom, that who she was and no one was going to keep her from making a name for herself, on and off the runway… hopefully.”
