Last week, he entered a fast food restaurant. Just ahead of him, two men got into an argument. One of them pulled a knife. Chris, who'd always made the best peace, tried to break it up. He was stabbed in the throat. He died almost instantly.

I hate talking about wounds. It feels like the language of the weak. But... that's what I'm doing right now. Whenever something goes wrong, I tell myself I was shattered back then, and that's why I'm like this now. I connect everything back to that time. But... If my life had worked out, would I still be holding onto and struggling with what happened then? Am I constantly bringing up my past as an excuse... for why my present situation isn't working out? How can you not bring up your past? Aren't you being too hard on yourself?
