so Radiohead’s been releasing these little 30 second or so clips of their new album songs with accompanying tiny films by various directors and they’re all amazing obviously but this one
this one is by Richard Ayoade and it’s simply the best thirty second thing I’ve ever seen
This has almost everything I love most in film contained within 30 seconds
The ambient music; the grainy retro found footage with visual distortion; driving alone in the middle of nowhere at night; an encounter with the unexplained surreal while in isolation (a staple of good film for me); men in suits used for creepy effect; the juxtaposition of the natural and man-made; the way it uses lighting (headlights and flares) to direct your attention to and from certain events; the way that more and more detail is slowly added and a critical detail is included at the last moment; the way it gives the viewer a barebones narrative framework and lets them fill in the gaps, never answering any questions but letting the viewer know that answers do exist… this packs so much into 30 seconds
thinkin’ bout burritos…
I love the photo on the right from a Dolce and Gabbana show and just had to match the color!
this may be fake deep but i’m constantly thinking of andrea gibson’s piece where she says “I said to the sun, ‘Tell me about the big bang.’ The sun said, ‘it hurts to become.” and that really puts my trauma, pain, and hopelessness into perspective
