Do you think Dainsleif have more akin to romantic feelings towards Abyss sibling ?
Dainsleif x Abyss Twin is ABSOLUTELY one of my favorite ships. Like one that’s just, in the background of everything I make? They simply belong together imo. Normally as exes or a situationship, like in canon.
However, while they are my favorite ship for each other, i wouldnt call their relationship overtly romantic.
They 100% have fucking, exes vibes tho.
I’d say that Dain feels more.. of a responsibility, for the Abyss Twin. In multiple ways.
Dain knew them before they really knew themselves. He’s been watching them since Khaenriah got them, basically. He didnt act, even while King Irmin was.. blatantly mistreating them. Using them as a social scapegoat, a vessel and sponge for the abyss. Dain didnt act. He just stood by.
No, the moment Dainslief acted? It was for his brother. Can we blame him? Ik that i’d commit a coup if my leader blinded my little sister for doing her job before tossing her in jail.
Dainsleif started a coup, for his brother. And this.. backfired. It resulted in the Sinners.
It resulted in the Abyss Twin… we dont know, really, what exactly happened to them. But we know that the abyssal power shared between the Sinners? It was torn and split from the Abyss Twin. They were used once again, as a weapon, not a person.
And then the Abyss Twin was discarded… and expected to save Khaenriah, despite having been treated as Savior and Scapegoat alike.
But they chose their sibling. And Khaenriah fell. Which is something the Abyss Twin actively blamed themselves for. Because they chose their twin.. and they dont regret it. Thats a large part of what’s driving them. Guilt, over Khaenriah’s destruction. Guilt, over the fact they would still choose their twin first.
Dainslief doesnt seem to fault the Abyss Twin in the slightest for that choice. How could he? He was the one who made them need to make that choice… all because HE made the very same choice. Dain chose his brother over Khaenriah.
Actually, thats a large reason I prefer Abyss Lumine! I think the parallels of both of them choosing their older brother over Khaenriah is really interesting, for their relationship, the story, and so on.
Dainslief also likely feels responsible for the creation of the Abyss Order. If things had gone differently, if he had acted differently, was he capable of keeping them on the right path? Thats why he fights the Abyss Order as firrcely as he does.
Just the same as Dainsleif blames his actions for the birth of the Sinners.. he blames his inaction for the birth of the Abyss Order.
Tbh, thats probably why Dain is so fuckin weird with the Traveler. Dude is tryna figure out fhe middle ground of the two lmao.
Dain blames himself for both. He blames himself for how the Abyss Twin is now - and it’s clear in his actions, that he still cares, even as he opposes them. But he deems it his responsibility to stop them, just as it’s his responsibility to end the Sinners.
Guilt & responsibility make up a large part of Dain.
The interesting thing i’d say, is that he’s not WRONG to blame himself. He’s not fully right either.
The birth of the sinners, of the abyss order.. both were bound to happen. The paths were already set.
It’s just Dain whose ended up shouldering the responsibility for both, the catalyst for both, through his action & inaction.
It was always bound to happen. Dainsleif, is just unfortunate enough to have been the one fate chose to send the boulder rolling down hill.
And Dain is the one who chose to take the Sisyphean feat of pushing them back up alone.
I will argue, that there are absolutely some romantic undertones to the relationship. Especially as exes. Like jesus christ, ex situationship much you two??
But no, the driving force of Dainslief’s relationship witj the Abyss Twin is guilt and responsibility.
Responsibility for not keeping them safe from Irmin. From the Sinners. From themself. The abyss. Himself. Responsibility for them following Khaenriahs fall. Responsibility for their actions following Clothar.. responsibility for them forming the abyss order. For instilling them with such hatred for the gods - that even while he himself still does not like the archons, his own feelings have colored their own. Responsibility for their refusal to move on from Khaenriah.
They just also happen to be each other’s ex situationship on top of all that. (Atp bro’s the Traveler’s less toxic situationship too, istg.)
