“I would strongly advise you to stop talking about my mother like that.”
Your Highness -
A delicate hand ran across her frowning forehead, it seemed lines and wrinkles had cropped up in the past couple of weeks. If Michael Williams were here now she would have him severely punished. But he wasn’t there and there was nothing to be done about that. The man had disappeared without a trace. She closed her eyes and opened them once her brother began to speak. She blamed herself, of course she did. She needed to be in control of every single thing in the Kingdom, she was alone and she could not rely on one single person. Her daughter had been kidnapped and caused her the greatest stress she’d experienced, she had not been able to protect her either. A hard lump formed in her throat and she stumbled, only a little but Adhémar must have seen it. She clutched the side of the armchair to support herself, and caught her breath. She blinked back the tears that were threatening to form and took a long, deep breath. Inhaling for seconds she stood up straight, squaring her shoulders and regaining her composure. She would not look weak. Not in front of Adhémar, not in front of anyone. She gave a curt nod. “I appreciate you honesty Adhémar” she said but did not confirm nor acknowledge his astute and intelligent observations, she would not explain her actions or defend them. Right or wrong, what was done, was done. “I protect myself. As you can see, ı ma surrounded by incompetent fools who no longer have a place in my Kingdom. They will all be fired once the event is over.” she told him. “I will run this Kingdom on my own if I need to. And you will stand beside me. Those powers….” her voice trailed off and she shook her head, changing her mind about what to say and she shook her finger. “I will not stand by and let those powers or anyone destroy me.Do you understand?” her voice rose with each word till she was practically shouting, but she was not angry at him, it was the situation that drove her mad, and he fact that she had no control over it or anything anymore, it seemed. And she was a stubborn woman, one that did not see reason when she was angry. Holding onto the back of the chair, her knuckles grew white and she took a deep breath calming herself down. “What do we do now, dear brother?” she asked, releasing her grip slowly.
He sighed, carefully listening to his half-sister as if to contemplate on his response as well. “It is too late to call off the event. Let us hope things will go well tonight, Your Highness,” he said to her, placing his own hands over hers. “Tomorrow, I’m sure you will have a clearer head. You’d know the next step the kingdom has to take.” He gave her a smile and encouraged her to leave her seat and get ready for the event. He had suspicions regarding the people who wanted to destroy Queen Verena but he never thought they would go too far to ruin not just the Queen’s reputation but whole kingdom as well…

Your Highness -
Adhémar straightened from where he stood, his scarred face turned directly to the Queen. This was an opportunity that not many people even in power and position get to have - speak their mind to the Queen of Hohenzollern. “I think you want to maintain the glory of the family’s tradition, Your Highness and you.ve done it from the moment the crown was passed onto you,” he paused, jaws clenched as he thought of the next words he was about to utter then continued. “I think you blame yourself whenever something goes wrong in the kingdom,” he said, voice firm, his eyes looked her straight in the eyes. No one tells the Queen such things but the Queen also didn’t have that person who’d tell her the truth. She was surrounded by people who only wanted to take advantage. “I know you don’t say it out loud, you don’t let people see it, but it’s clear - how you get more and more extravagant each time there is a disaster. These events - celebrations, they are not going to patch up what Williams’ book did. But it’s not your fault that it happened. You were supposed to be protected. The kingdom has connections, people in power that’d see to it that something like this wouldn’t happen. But it did. It meant only one thing - they want to destroy you.”
A delicate hand ran across her frowning forehead, it seemed lines and wrinkles had cropped up in the past couple of weeks. If Michael Williams were here now she would have him severely punished. And she was a stubborn woman, one that did not see reason when she was angry. Holding onto the back of the chair, her knuckles grew white and she took a deep breath calming herself down. “What do we do now, dear brother?” she asked, releasing her grip slowly.
Your Highness -
Adhémar stared in the Queen’s eyes, letting his hands take a hold of hers. It was a rare gesture; although he felt close to the Queen, there was an invisible wall that set them apart. He was her father’s bastard son, one of the many, and most of the time he wondered what she felt about him. Given the position he has in the kingdom he thought of the Queen as generous and this was proven as the title came with enormous privilege as well. But she had never spoken about her thoughts regarding the late king and Adhémar’s mother. “A few members of your council, My Queen, were overheard discussing some issues concerning the castle. They do not trust your decision no longer. I was informed that they felt we have been too lenient. They do not believe the tradition will survive,” this was a lot to say to the Queen and he knew that it would be hard to take on her part but he had to inform her. He had to take care of the groomer who overheard the conversation before delivering the news to the Queen. They couldn’t afford another scandal. And they definitely cannot afford for Queen Verena to make any hasty decisions regarding her traitors.
When he took her hands in his she froze, not used to these kind of kind gestures from the people around her. Most were afraid of her but not Adhémar, for this she respected him greatly. She knew his motives were true and she knew that he would not candy coat the truth just to make her feel better. Things had not always been so candid between them. When she first learned that they shared the same father she had hated him, hated his mother and hated what they had made her mother feel. Hurt and rejected. But now her father and her mother had passed, Verena had matured and she was ruler of Hohenzollern, she could make up her own mind and she had decided that he was a good, honest man who supported her fully. This made her happy and grateful. She stepped back from him and ran a finger along her lips back and forth. “I see. You handled it, I presume? Those members of my council” she asked and turned on her heel striding towards a leather armchair. “Sir, Adhémar” she instructed. “What do you think? That concerns me more than a few misinformed gossip mongers” she crossed her legs and cocked her head waiting for his personal opinion.
Your Highness -
“You are mistaken, my sister, to think you are the only one who wanted the tradition safe,” he spoke more gently this time, trying to make her see that he truly cared. “I do not want to antagonize you nor make you think that this is an attack on your ideas and desire to save what we have left. This is me telling you, as your loyal servant, not just your brother, that this event could potentially do us more harm than good. You are a kind woman, my Queen. You have a big heart and trust those who showed you loyalty but people are more deceitful than Williams. And I’m not just talking about people who are in the castle. I’m referring to people who have powers - people watching from the distance who want a piece of what Williams is reaping as we speak,” he sighed, keeping his hands clasped behind his back as continued. “It is too late to call off the event. I will disperse more men at the edge of the woods and will accompany them throughout the hunt. I will make sure we avoid any distresses tonight. I do suggest that we hold off on having another event after things settled, Your Highness.”
As his attitude softened hers did, too. She let her shoulders slump low revealing her true face. One that was just a scared and worried woman unsure of what to do. She walked towards him as he spoke and covered the short distance between them as he stopped talking. Taking hold of his arms, she met his eyes “I know you care” she said and was silent for a few moments. Of course she knew and she trusted him maybe more than she trusted anyone else. He was right, her kindness was used by people to their own advantage. “What people Adhémar?” she asked. “Tell me what you know, what you think. So we can take measures....precautions, I’ll be damned if I let anyone take even a tiny, minuscule piece of what respect I have left.” her voice wavered as the brave front she had been putting on the for past week was slowly crumbling.
Your Highness -
Adhémar was well aware of his tone and the line he just crossed. He respected his sister and what she was capable of doing but by no means he was scared of her. If getting punished for insubordination is what it would take to get through to how much trouble the kingdom was actually in, then he’d take it. “It is my job, My Queen. And I do it to the best of my abilities. Yes, we have traitors, a lot of them. And I’m not just talking about the outlaws that roam our streets. I’m talking about our own people who had turned their backs on us after Williams’ book was published. Verena - Your Highness,” he once again released a breath, “The kingdom is not like it used to be… These people we trust cannot be trusted anymore. I’m afraid that during this hunt people like Williams would take advantage. I’m speaking because it is not only the kingdom I’m concerned about. I’m worried about you and what might happen if we don’t think of our actions.”
Verena was a tough woman, intelligent and astute, she knew exactly the risks she was taking, but she had to save face, make it known that this blip, this rather large blip was not going to get her down. At least that’s what she had to do to show all those in the castle that she was in control and this book that Micheal Williams had published meant nothing to her. Of course she was incredibly stressed and worried about the whole thing and the repercussions that would inevitably ensue. But she could not, would not let that show to anyone, not even to her brother. “People like Williams?” she raised an eyebrow. “There are no more. Not that I know of. All the rooms of tributes and trainers have been searched. In fact all room in the castle have been searched for evidence and none has been found. And now, we have specialists making searches on all internet histories dating back over a year. Apparently that will take time...time I don’t have. I want answers. Now” she slammed her hand down on the table. “So you see, I am thinking of out actions. Past, present and future” she held up her hand indicating for him not to interrupt her. “And I can see, as always, I am alone in my endeavors to keep this castle and this tradition safe” she knew that all the kingdoms they were connected with were anxious, their children were named in the book and she had spent the past week speaking to leaders of the world trying to calm them down. “The world think I am a ...a mockery!” she raised her voice. “I must reinstate my good name”
Your Highness -
Adhémar wasted no time. As soon as the door closed to the private room they entered, he faced the Queen. “A hunt?” His voiced raised above intended, “Your Highness,” he then added, catching himself before he continued to speak. By no means he wanted to disrespect the Queen but he did not approve of the event. The hunt was something put together the last minute by the Queen as if she was attempting to save the kingdom by doing something extravagant and daring. And it was true in many ways, the kingdom needs a lot of saving especially after Williams’ book was published but Adhémar didn’t think putting their Tributes’ lives at risk sending them into the woods was the brightest idea. “Forgive me your Highness but we have pirates out there, picking our guests one by one. We do not have enough protection to cover the whole kingdom including the woods.”
An eyebrow raised at his raised voice. “Very observant” she quipped, turning to face him as she leaned on the table, arms across her chest. She looked at the floor as he spoke, she liked Adhémar, she loved him dearly but he was clearly overstepping the boundaries with his attitude. “Finished?” she asked, her face still looking down, she brushed a tendril of hair off her face as she averted her eyes to his face. “I know exactly what is out there, Adhémar. Do not speak to me as if I were a fool” she glared at him now, not blinking, her stance still the same. “It is your job to deal with that. And my job to - to do every damn thing around here it seems.” she stood up straight, arms raised up for a moment in anger. “We will never have enough protection, traitors walk among us, in our domain, freely taking what they want” anger frothed inside her, remembering the book once more. “If your job is not to protect the castle, then what is it, Adhémar?”
Your Highness -
“I hope you are enjoying your birthday celebration,” Adhémar meets the Queen prior to the hunt. Although he appeared calm, worried thoughts occupied his head that he decided to speak to the Queen. “This might not be the best time, but I hope you have a moment to speak with me, My Queen.”
It was a difficult endeavor, the forget all that had been happening over the past week, since the now infamous book had been published. It was her birthday and things had to go on as normal. She remained calm and civilised to all her guests, she was cool until she saw Adhémar approach her. “It appears I am doing a good job despite the circumstances, Adhémar” she forced a smile. “Follow me” she said, turning to head to a room where they could speak in private.
Queen Verena at The Annual Hunt
Hohenzollern Kingdom Celebrates Queen Verena’s 48th Birthday
In honor of her Majesty’s birthday celebration, the kingdom is holding the Annual Hunt that will be held tonight commencing at 7:00 p.m. and taking place in the Hohenzollern Woods.
Tributes will collectively be taken to the woods via secure transportation and upon launch of the canon by the Royal Guard they will be released into the woods thus marking the start of the the hunt. Trainers accompanied by slaves and groomers will be already waiting on the outskirts of the forest.
Trainers can enlist the aid and use of any slave, groomer or page they so choose and will be hunting any tribute they wish. Upon capturing a tribute they may then choose to use them however they desire for the rest of the evening thus ending the hunt for said Trainer and tribute or they may free them once again so the tribute can be captured for a second, third time and as many times as the allotted time allows.
Trainers are free to choose and capture and keep any tribute they wish to for the night and it will ultimately be the Trainer who decides if and whom they keep for the duration of the event and whom they only handle for a short time. Trainers are not limited to the number of tributes they handle during the hunt. And they can choose to stay in the woods or leave with or without a tribute. But once they have left the woods with a tribute, they shall not return to continue the hunt.

The Queen had finally regained some sense of normality in her life. Her children were with her, things were going well in the castle. Everything was calm and peaceful, just as it should be around Christmas time. She had started to prepare for Christmas, things were pleasantly busy in the castle and she was happy. Sitting down for her morning coffee with her assistants, she was listening to their plans for Christmas week in Hohenzollern castle. She was listening avidly and looked over the plans they had when there was a knock at the door. One of the castle PR staff entered hurriedly and scampered over to Verena. “Yes?” she remarked, not looking up from the plans. “Spit it out, man” she sighed. “Your Majesty. It is not good news” Verena’s heart skipped a beat.
“The Princess?” she asked, her stomach was in knots, she had not seen her daughter since the night before.
“No, your Majesty. The head groomer, Asena Kılıç…is missing”
“What? Expand” she demanded, waving a hand about and taking a deep sigh of relief, her children were safe. Her eyes were firmly fixed upon the man in front of her now.
“Your Majesty. She has been gone for more than two weeks now. With no sign or word. She has not left the country. We have checked with customs. We do not believe it to be an escape, your Majesty” he spoke quickly and nervously.
“Two weeks? And I am only being informed now? You are fired. You and your whole team of pathetic, useless runts. Get out of my sight. NOW” Queen Verena stood up almost knocking the man over with her chair. “All of you get out” she shrieked. Once she was alone she marched over to her desk and clung to its sides, her knuckles whitening as her grip grew harder. Where could Asena be? Verena knew and trusted the woman well enough to know that she would not try to flee so the first fleeting thought through her mind was that she, too had been kidnapped. But there was no sense to that. Asena was just a slave and of no real value to the Queen, so what would pirates want with her? Rubbing the crease that had formed in her brow she closed her eyes and shook her head slowly. Perhaps then, something had happened to her, something bad. But if that was the case, then she would have been informed or at least she would have heard about it. She did not want to think about it anymore, she would leave that to people that she paid to think for her. Massaging her brow, she decided to call in her own team of private investigators to find out what exactly had happened to the woman and picked up the phone.
The Prisoner [Part Three] ♈ Annis/The Queen/Charlie

Annis remained quiet as the Queen spoke, her eyes fixed on Charlie behind him. When no word was said, his eyes flickered back to the Queen who focused her attention on him. “Suspicion, Your Highness. I chanced upon the impostor in one of the hallways the other night, taking pictures of Tributes and Trainers. I confiscated her camera and approached my good friend, Akbar Shadid, who worked as a private investigator for quite sometime. He found out everything about Charlie Dupont that is in the folder you are holding,” he finished, motioning to the files set before the Queen.
charliedupont
Charlie looked at the queen as she spoke to her. The only answer she could give her was either to say that the money was too great to turn down the offer, or that she was going to tell the whole truth and give up Michael, and that was definitely not going to happen. She wasn’t concerned when the Queen mentioned her room would be searched, she had been nervous after Annis had taken her camera and had given what she could to Michael, hoping he would mail it to a safe location or keep it safe himself. She had been at least sort of prepared something bad might come of Annis finding her with that camera. All the queen had was some picture and her history. She felt herself glaring at Annis the entire time he spoke, wishing more and more she’d been even less kind to him.
“Hmm..it seems this Akbar Shadid should be rewarded for snuffing out our little snake in the grass.” Her eyes flickered to Charlie, “Well I don’t have all day to deal with this. As she has nothing to say for her own defense and the evidence is conclusive, I believe a proper punishment is in order? Since you wanted to be a slave so badly for you story, Miss. Dupont, how about we make it official. You’ll not leave this kingdom nor taste the sweetness of freedom again.” She turned her attention to the prince. “I’ll have my page prepare the documentation in making her a slave, one of my own for now, but she will be placed under your care, Prince Annis. If you are up to the challenge?”
The Prisoner [Part Three] ♈ Annis/The Queen/Charlie
Annis’ jaws clenched as the Queen’s focused transferred to Charlie from him. He kept his eyes forward - not even glancing at the powerful woman in front of him. He listened to the Queen’s voice and the muffling sound behind him. He didn’t have to look at Charlie to know what she might’ve looked right his minute. But he didn’t think Charlie would be too stupid to challenge the Queen by opening her mouth. The impostor was in the Queen’s mercy now. Annis hadn’t really thought about this thoroughly - what sort of punishment Charlie would receive from deceiving the most powerful person in this kingdom. He of course thought about getting the authorities involved and maybe sending Charlie to jail. But it is the Queen of Hohenzollern that is involved. Annis didn’t think the Queen would let Charlie get off the hook that easy. No. He had a feeling the Queen might just have the proper punishment for the impostor. The town auction… He thought to himself, making him turn his head to glance at the brunette, catching her eyes this time.
Charlie could see the expression on the Queen’s face change and she knew whatever she was reading was very incriminating. She stilled as she was adressed, not wanting the guards to get rough with her now that the queen was paying attention. Charlie had a lot of things to say, like how sick the whole kingdom was, and that it wasn’t helping anyone but a few royals get their rocks off. She knew that if she spoke out, there would probably be nothing stopping the queen from killing her, it seemed like a real possibilty in her mind. She thought about blaming someone, but she had known coming there that this was a real possibility and she wouldn’t want to be responsible for her friend getting hurt too. She shook her head. “Nothing, your Majesty.” She said, avoiding her gaze, but she caught Annis looking at her as well, and she felt her mouth tighten in anger, fists curling at her sides.
The queen hummed and she handed the documents back to Annis’ page before clasping her pale hands together. “You have absolutely nothing to say in your defense, girl?” She inquired, her voice hinting mild disappointment in the young woman. “You come into my kingdom and you disrupt the balance that I have created here for what? A juicy story? The guests that I have here come for refuge, safety, and to learn to be better rulers and leaders for their respective countries. You, who do not deserve to serve me, let alone even set foot in this kingdom, cannot think of anything to say to defend or explain yourself when given the chance? Well, then, I shall find other means.” She turned her head to the side, snapping her fingers at a page, who rushed to her side. “Go to the woman’s room, search it top to bottom and report your findings back to me.” She turned her gaze back to the prince once the page and several others left the room in search for Charlie’s room, “Tell me how you so happened to discover this woman’s treachery?”
The Prisoner [Part Three] ♈ Annis/The Queen/Charlie
charliedupont:
Annis, like any soldier ready for battle came prepared before Her Majesty. As soon as the Queen asked for proof that would confirm his accusations against the slave still standing behind him, he nodded at his page who immediately delivered an envelop to the seated Queen. The envelope came from his friend and business partner Akbar who worked on finding things about Charlie.
“Inside that envelope Your Highness are documents - papers that prove that this woman pretending to be one of the servants in the castle is in fact a well-known paparazza. An American photographer in fact, who came here to, I suspect, gather information - stories that she would eventually sell to whoever would pay her the right price,” he kept his gaze on the Queen, his mind racing as thoughts rushed through his brain. “I have to add, Your Majesty, that I also suspect she is not acting on her own.”
Charlie tried to remain as calm as possible, though she wasn’t sure that was going to work for long. She didn’t see a lot of ways out of this situation, there wasn’t anywhere she could run, at least not if she planned to get anywhere. Her eyes barely made it up to the queen, not wanting to really offend the woman anymore if she could help it. She was already in deep trouble without anyway to defend herself.
Charlie swallowed hard as Annis’ page handed the Queen an envelope. She would have murdered Annis with her eyes if she could have. She moved to speak up for herself, wondering if it was best to deny the presence of the other people she knew in the castle, or not say anything at all. She didn’t want to look guilty by saying too much either. She struggled against the guards holding her, huffing behind Annis, muttering under her breath.
Verena took the procured envelope and slowly tore it open, removing its contents. She examined the papers as the prince continued to talk, documents that showed the woman’s full identity, where she was from, what schools she went to, the type of jobs she’s held. It also held various photo images of the young woman and much much more. The queen took her time to look through each piece of evidence, silently, only holding a hand up to stop the prince from speaking any further.
To say the queen was furious was beyond an understatement. She was livid. The severity of the situation was clear enough for her to sit at attention. It was a matter of security. If what had been shown to her was accurate, and this woman managed to come into her home, disrespecting it’s integrity under the guise of a servant, one of the queen’s slaves in hopes of gathering a juicy story to sell to the presses, then who else has slipped under nose without her knowledge. What a field day the media would have if they really knew what went on here. “You.” Her icy blue eyes drifted over at the struggling woman behind the young prince. “What do you have to say for yourself?”

There was no time wasted. Annis demanded to see the Queen as guards were ordered to seize Charlie Dupont, one of the Queen’s groomers. The slave was taken before the Queen, right behind the proud and obviously angered Grimaldo Prince.
“Thank you for seeing me in such short notice, Your Highness,” Annis started, hands clasped behind his back. “There is a pressing matter I wish to discuss with you regarding one of your servants, My Queen…” He then turned his head slightly to the side, referring to the woman who was made to stand a few feet behind him. “I’m afraid this person is no servant nor a slave but an impostor. A member of the media who infiltrated your kingdom.”
Charlie knew she was fucked, and if they searched her room, everything would be for nothing, and she was probably going to be punished and sent away. She wouldn’t even get a chance to tell Michael. The guards kept a firm grip on her arms, but she didn’t struggle until they got before the queen, she pulled on her arms, wanting to be let go, but they refused.
She would have liked to have punched Annis, he looked so smug, clearly pleased to have caught onto her. Of course, she had taken his picture in the past, and surely caused drama for him, it wasn’t a wonder he was angry with her. She looked around the room, and she tried to decide what was going to be the best way to get out of her with her skin intact, keeping her head down and eyes to the ground.
The queen, as always was a very busy woman. Running a kingdom was no easy task any ruler would tell you, but Verena did not rule just a single kingdom, she ruled many, as the Hohenzollern clan had a hand in just about every single kingdom and trade in the world. Where many had only one problem, she had hundreds, hundreds of thousands of problems and at the forefront a new problem had arisen within her very home and has been an issue since her daughter’s kidnapping. Infiltration.
Only a select few were allowed within these castle walls and the queen did not take kindly to those who had slip beneath her radar into her private home, only open to nobles, royals and high persons of interest. This was their safe haven, a place to relax and feel free to indulge in their every desire without prying eyes or judgment. God help those who dared disturb the work she did here with the traditional training especially.
Verena crossed her legs, arms folded across her chest, staring rather indifferently at the young Monégasque prince who stood at attention and her slave, a groomer name Charlie. Her eyes flickered between the two of them, processing the young man’s words. “Is that so? And what proof, Prince Oiannis, do you have that this woman is in fact an impostor?”

But instead of another demand sealed in another unmarked enveloped, Her Highness received a relay message... Four simple words that broke the Queen down to tears as she lay in her chambers -
“The Princess is home.”
