btw it's so fucking stupid you can be anxious physically in your body even after you've decided mentally you don't care. I'm supposed to be in charge here
Who is the Monster? Who is the Man?
Good morning,
museums should repatriate artifacts belonging to living cultures and display reproductions instead
Good afternoon,
no one is entitled to the sacred art, tools, or costumes of another culture (save members of the culture itself) and nonsacred reproductions will serve just as well for the purposes of education and appreciation
Good evening,
having museums full of reproductions would be even cooler than having museums full of sacred artifacts because when modern craftspeople are able to replicate those artifacts, it’s usually because they still make the same items the same way today
this means that you could have description tags emphasizing that such-and-such item has been made by these people in almost the same way for hundreds of years
having museums full of beautiful reproductions takes the emphasis off of Things and places it on the People who make them, which is really as it should be

Historical RPF is valid. My wife and I have had some of the best sex of our marriage as Will Shakespeare and Kit Marlowe

if tumblr shuts down we should all develop car crash fetishes and form an underground community that reenacts famous car crashes for sexual pleasure

the way will is never going to tell mike the painting wasn’t commissioned by el, not now, not when she’s dead, not when mike is clinging to that lie like it’s the last intact piece of her he has left. and the thing that makes me want to throw my film degree at the wall is that will is doing what he’s always done: putting el above his own feelings. even now. even when it costs him the one moment where he could’ve finally been honest. even when the truth would free him. he still chooses her. he still protects her memory over his own heart.
and narratively? it’s a mess. it makes no structural sense. it doesn’t protect mike, it doesn’t honour el, and it absolutely annihilates will’s emotional arc. all it does is make the van scene, already one of the most emotionally loaded moments of the seasons, feel even crueller. because now we’re watching will pour out his soul under the guise of a request that never existed, for a girl who never asked, and who is now gone. the emotional labour he did in that scene becomes even more invisible, even more uncredited, even more narratively punished. it’s like the writers looked at the most thematically potent moment of the seasons and said, “what if we made this hurt in a way that doesn’t even mean anything.”
it’s bad storytelling. it’s character driven cruelty with no thematic payoff. it undermines will, it flattens mike, and it turns el into a narrative shield instead of a character. and honestly, this really was our paintinggate, a whole subplot built on a lie the show refuses to interrogate, leaving the audience to do the emotional heavy lifting the writers didn’t bother to attempt.
Ive never seen so many missed narrative opportunities in my life it’s impressive
