thinking of eli being a pretty decent cook, but having learned to cook in bulk. spending his whole adolescence learning to cook for six people as a baseline, then scaling up for parties or sleepovers because there was no way of escaping some kind of household duty. ( and who wouldn’t prefer to be cooking in the kitchen with mom than cleaning in the basement with jake? ) when his older siblings started college, it was no big deal. leftovers were good! no one left the stock house without a full stomach. when he and abe moved in together, it was funny. three people would chow down on the twelve hot dogs that eli threw on the grill. they’d eat until they felt like they would puke and belissa would scrunch up her nose, but he could tell she thought it was kinda funny. plus jake and his friends had a standing invitation, as long as they brought back his tupperware. after abe died it was... awful? he ran on autopilot for a while. cooking for six. but everything tasted like ash. he had a fridge full of food that he couldn’t stomach and he no longer gave a shit if the people throwing his pity party returned the tupperware, as long as they didn’t come back. he started living off of questionable gas/gro hot dogs. coffee. last chance take out. the odd meal at home with his parents. by the time things started to feel easier, he stuck to his questionable diet—- now complete with pie and the occasional ham sandwich—- not because he didn’t want to cook for himself. he just didn’t have anything left to store the leftovers in.

i still have to make tags and an about page etc but i wanted to make a reminder to myself that i wish to write a headcanon about eli’s insomnia being tied to his healing after abe’s death and how far he came before auden ever came to colby!! but also about how without auden to push him back into the world, he probably wouldn’t have reintegrated into polite society for like ... a while :/
