Headcanon: Prompto and gifts

Prompto is someone who knows exactly how awkward it is to get gifts from people who are clearly only doing so out of the obligation of a birthday or other gift-giving holiday. ‘A gift card for the coffee shop chain I never go to! You shouldn’t have.’

After he starts hanging out with Noctis, Prompto inevitably sees Gladio and Ignis often enough to induce the obligation of a gift. Prompto, however, is also incredibly observant, so he does his best to provide gifts that the boys would like.

Gladio On seeing that Gladio likes to read, and the sorts of materials he prefers, Prompto goes out and buys, not a book shop gift card, but actual books. A series he hasn’t heard Gladio mention nor seen him carry, which hopefully means Gladio doesn’t have them yet. 

Ignis Ignis is much harder to read than Gladio is, but Prompto gets the sense that Ignis really does enjoy cooking for its own sake – he’s Noct’s advisor, not his personal maid. So he gets Ignis a cookbook of recipes from Tenebrae, and a knife-cleaning kit. Other years might be a history of cooking, or some kind of ‘fill it in yourself’ recipe book.

Noctis Noct is Prompto’s best friend. He’s also the prince, and can have his every material desire filled. And even material nondesires. (I don’t believe for an instant Noctis actually wanted that car, given his attachment to the Regalia.) So what can he get to compare?

A scrapbook/photo album, filled with pictures of the people Noctis loves. Hanging out together, Gladio in the gym, Gladio reading on a park bench, Ignis cooking, Ignis studying, them with Noctis, Prompto with Noctis – there’s even a picture of Regis napping at his desk, acquired with the assistence and tacit permission of Iris and Clarus Amicitia.

And one blurry picture of child Noct, because the focus of the picture was a dog. Prompto’s souvenir of the first time he ever met the prince.

Little Prompto Things

very secretly geeks out over the magitek armor. he knows they’re made of evil and run on like. the yelps of kicked puppies and the sobs of children but he really really wants to pilot one.

the angelus, however, can go right to hell where it belongs

after discovering his origins, prompto starts to wonder if maybe that’s why he never saw his foster parents…. if maybe they knew what he was, and were scared of him.

the fact that noctis immediately accepts him despite knowing the truth does a lot to make him feel like a person again

prompto hates images of himself. it takes encouragement from noct, and the adrenaline rush of combat, to get him to start taking selfies.

he also doesn’t like mirrors very much.

he has an absurdly high tolerance for pain. it’s concerning.

he never deviates from his ‘vitamin’ prescription. when the darkness falls, Prompto does some research with talcott to figure out what exactly is in said vitamins, locate the herbs that go into them, and starts brewing ‘teas’ made of the stuff.

yes, the ‘vitamins’ help him deal with the shortcomings of verstael’s cloning process, so he can live as full a life as possible

the closest thing he had to a role model growing up was the jogger who greeted him every morning. that guy is why Prompto actually likes jogging.

when prompto and noctis became friends, and then best friends, prompto should have gotten a crownsguard escort. he did not.

the glaives stepped in before cor had to knock some heads together, mostly because a number of them had run into the kid before, and they didn’t trust the crownsguard near an outlander, even an adopted one.

a paparazzi once broke into prompto’s apartment. axis arra was on guard that night. axis does not take it well when minors are endangered.

prompto has babysat for axis’ kids, and those of other glaives, from time to time

he seriously considered going into the kingsglaive for a bit when he was seventeen but gladio talked him around to the crownsguard

Do you remember that prank that Shin’ichi Kurita did a few years back with this young man?

Now think, wouldn’t it be awesome to travel with Talcott, perhaps with Ignis too since they did travel together, to collect and gather information related to the Lucis Caelum and the Royal Tombs?

Puzzles, info gathering, travelling in the truck while hearing new conversations. Lots of interesting battles on WoR, a high chance of meeting Iris the Daemon Slayer, learn more from House Amicitia through Jared and Talcott’s memories…

So much potential!
