Jazwares figures are 7 inches tall, it's mostly their noodle limbs causing their height, I agree that he's a little big but at the moment the D-arts costs wayyy more money than I can easily cough up right now (and good lord D-arts Vile, I wish I could afford him)
I've been considering cleaning up my TLS Treble like some do for the old Jazwares and BN figures sometimes, but haven't bothered to yet, as I wanna get some better supplies for it
Is it possible Vile is taller than the others? Or if you used a soft measuring tape, it can be harder to get an accurate measurement. I got ~6" for both the 2003 (short fins, slightly shorter) and 2004 (long fins, slightly taller) Jazware Basses.
D-Arts is Bass is a nice figure and I'm really glad I have him, I'm grateful I was able to get him before the prices got really insane, and probably would've paid a lot more than I did because I myself am insane (*cries in compulsive completist collector*), but. Like. $100 is a decent price, $200 is overpriced but understandable for a hard to find import figure that's been off the market for a decade, $400? No. No absolutely not. He's not worth $400 under any circumstances, for that money you're better off buying a decent 3D printer, learning to model, and printing your own guy.
If you're up for trying a proxy service like Buyee, you can find him for under $200. Exhibit A:
(not D-Arts but gives you an idea of what the pricing is for the same listing on eBay US vs Mercari Japan, the Ā„ was weak at the time as well)
But the good news is you don't have to because ThreeZero is definitely releasing Bass (threat) and based on their pricing scheme he should be under $50. You can get ThreeZero Mega Man, Proto Man, and Bass for less than half of what D-Arts Bass goes for these days. If you start salting away $5 - $10 dollars here and there now, you should have that well before he drops. BigBadToyStore doesn't charge preorders until they're ready to go out, includes tariffs in the pricing, and has a $6 flat rate shipping in the continental US.
Some folks also repaint figures to make them look better
I truly believe TLS Treble does not need very much work at all. His eyes need some attention, but that's the most glaring "issue" and I think he will look much improved with better placed, larger irises, and some "eyeliner" to distinguish his eyes from his muzzle. If he has any paint apps that need tidied up, there's that. Personally I'll probably take a exacto knife to some of the mold lines on his muzzle, maybe sand it to smooth things out (and repaint the muzzle if needed) but that's something I usually do anyway. Aside from that, painting the back tubes and tail gray is all that's really left, maybe acrylic sealant if you want him shiny, just minor detail work.
You don't need expensive supplies, it's mostly medium, medium, medium. I'm talking about paint thinning medium or floating medium. Straight acrylic paint is too thick and lumpy, watering it down makes it too thin. You can use cheap paint, cheap floating medium, cheap sealant, and a slightly nicer brush with great results, nail art brushes and Sakura Micron pens for really fine details. Use thin layers and build color. Don't be afraid to wipe it off while it's still wet and start over. Practice technique on something you don't care about first.
I've done some really nice custom work with $1 acrylic, nail art brushes, and modge podge to seal (and more importantly it will help smooth out the appearance of any brush strokes.) BTW If you learned about doll faceups before venturing into action figure customs, unlike soft vinyl they do not need to be sealed before painting, just cleaned. You do not need high quality seal that requires a respirator like MSC.
(The one exception to cheap paint is white, especially if you're painting over a dark color or have a lot of area to cover. Also Sakura Micron pens work well for plastic like TLS Treble but not glossy slick plastic like D-Arts or Transformers have.)
Funnily enough, one of my projects was Jazwares Bass, the long finned versions whose face turned gray. He looked fantastic for a couple months, then whatever the hell is wrong with his plastic ate through the paint I used š« He might be one of the exceptions to the "doesn't need to be sealed with MSC first" OR whatever's going on with the plastic deteriorating might not be salvageable.
