Silvanās body trembled from the adrenaline, and from the pain. They had failed in their fight⦠they had not even managed to get close to Ace, let alone touch him! Ace seemed to realise that the fight was over, as there was a stillness over the battlefield, now.
Silvan heard steps come close to them, and they closed their eyes, lying on the stage, their pride in tatters.Ā
Finally, they had it in their hands⦠and they had failed.
Silvan couldnāt even begin to decipher the sounds Ace had just made, but a warm glow settled over their battered body. Their wounds healed, and their body no longer ached. Once the glow receded, Silvan took a moment to collect themselves as they rolled over to look at the God before them.
They bowed their head, disappointment radiating from their form, āIām sorry⦠Iām sorry I failed you. I⦠Iām sorry I lost.ā
āYes, you lost.ā Ace said rather simply. āWere you expecting to win?ā
āIā¦ā part of them had gotten a little hopeful at the task. They knew they wouldnāt have had a chance in hell in a regular battle, but a battle of the senses?Ā
They answered honestly, āI wanted⦠to hope⦠I mightāve wonā¦ā
Something warm slowly began to shift over them, a warmth that tingled. It was pleasant. Silvan blinked, and as their vision began to come back into focus, they looked at their fur.
It was glittery.
āSilvan,ā Ace was visibly smiling, āthroughout your journey, you have grown, changed, fought, and accepted your failings. You have gone through every single trial thrown at you, and you have lost, as well as won. You have experienced victory, and you have experienced loss.ā
āBut⦠I didnāt win against youā¦?ā Silvan was confused as they stood. The crown felt warm on their head.
āOh, but you seeā¦ā
Silvan felt themselves begin to lift off the ground. They looked at Ace, who smiled brighter than ever.
āWhenever did I say you had to win to evolve?ā
Silvanās four feet lifted off the ground completely. They were startled, and looked at their paws as their fur began to shine. The Stellar Gem burst with energy, and it was with a realisation to what was happening that Silvan let out a gasp as their body shone.
Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly
I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide
I tried to talk with God to no avail
Calling him in-and-out of nowhere
I said "If you won't save me, please don't waste my time"
Two ribbons burst from their body, shining with a brilliant white light. Their body grew bigger, their ears grew longer and fuller, the fur on their head growing long. The ruff around their neck became far fluffier, and an extra tail burst from their being.Ā
Silvan felt the feeling unlike anything they had ever felt before - a connection. Not just to one element, but to every single element they had ever encountered. Their brilliant blue eyes opened as a realisation crashed into their mind.
The Stellar element⦠was all of the elements combined into one, connecting them all together in one unified force stronger than all others. The element of the ancients⦠and nowā¦
In them.
They floated down onto the platform, their sparkling paws now winged and their fur star-kissed. Translucent ribbons flowed from their ears, and on their tail was a crest, almost like a crown unto itself. Gems adorned their fur, a radiant glow from them in all colours, and their long tails had the same star-kissed look that their mane and their feet now held. Above their head, between their ears, floated a crown made of pure energy. Their inherited crown was still sitting on their head, but now empty, as the Stellar Gem had been used up for their evolution.Ā
āIāā Silvan looked at their beautiful fur colours. They were purple! They looked at themselves as best as they could, and spun around in a circle to look at their tails and their back. They looked down at the stage, and their face was reflected back at them, along with their widened eyes and surprise.
āI⦠I did itā¦ā Silvan couldnāt repress the immense joy they felt, and tears formed in their eyes, āI did it!ā They looked at Ace, their face alight with happiness.
āI DID IT!!ā They began to bounce around the stage with a brilliant smile, happier than they had ever been in their life as they ran around.Ā
Ace could only smile as he watched Silvan celebrate. It had been an immense accomplishment. The Fairy Tale Eevee had achieved a beautiful evolution.
āThe Rosalina Cosmieon.ā Ace announced with a smile as Silvan stopped to turn to him as he spoke, their face still alight with happiness.Ā
āR-Rosalinaā¦?ā Silvan questioned.
āThe Princess of the Stars in your world,ā Ace winked, āIn her own fairy tale, she is the protector of the Universe, to stop an evil warlord from taking it over. I think it fits, donāt you?ā
āYesā¦ā It would be something to add to the Legend book, for sure!
āIt was a pleasure to meet you, Silvan.ā The stage began to glow, ābut I think you should go home now.ā
āWait!ā
Ace blinked in surprise as Silvan flew over, and with a cheeky smile, they hugged him.
āThank you,ā they said to him. The meaning was not lost on Ace, who laughed in delight as the area turned white.
Of all the beings Silvan expected to meet, the God of all Creation was not one of them. Silvan could only stare in complete shock, their mouth agape, as Arceus looked straight back at them.
It was as though he had been expecting this.
āThe rest is up to youā - that was what the voice from the Gem had said. But what did that mean when they were faced with God himself?
āHello, Silvan.ā Arceus greeted, āIām glad to see you finally made it here.ā
āGod knows my name?!ā Inside, they were screeching. They tried not to make it too visible on their face. āH-hello. Um. Arceus?ā
Their voice was high pitched. It sounded almost foreign to them.
āMy name is Ace. You may call me that if you wish.ā
Ace⦠Silvan inwardly decided to tell Kentarous later. They wondered if he even knew Godās name.
āIām sure youāre wondering what comes next.ā
āT-the Gem said⦠the rest was up to me,ā Silvan managed to speak more calmly, āwh⦠do you know what it means?ā
āYes,ā Ace nodded, āit means that you have the choice to accept whether or not you are capable of obtaining the Stellar evolution by taking on the task required to do it.ā
Silvan blinked at that. It was a choice? It went against what they had been taught about their species entirely. What did it mean
āSo⦠what happens⦠if I donāt accept?ā
āYou either stay as you are, an Eevee, or, you go through each individual trial for all 18 elements to see if one of them will eventually work for you.ā Ace explained, his voice calm. āYou have thus far only done one task of the 18, and the Ice Gem did not resonate with you. The Dark and Ghost Gems you have rejected outright. That leaves you with 15 options to choose from.ā
āHowever⦠of your kind, be it Fairy Tale Eevee, or just an Eevee, this is your species' chance to discover an evolution that will bring forth the final Element on Earth to fruition.ā
āThe Stellar Element is poorly understood by Earth, and deliberately so. It has been hidden, waiting for its day to choose a wielder - one capable of harnessing its immense power in mortal form and bringing it forth safely outside of Legendary hands. While the Pokemon of Paldea have discovered some of its power, its true power remains locked away from all but the most Ancient of us. The Gods of the Universe itself.ā
āAndā¦ā Silvan was struggling to come to grips on what that really meant, āyou picked⦠me?ā
Ace nodded.
Silvan had to sit down at that, their mouth open. Them. They were the bringer of the Stellar evolution to Earth?
It felt⦠enormous. Too big to think about. Is this why it was a choice? Could they truly handle such a responsibility?
āI⦠well⦠Iā¦ā Silvan stuttered, āhow will I⦠bring this element to everyone, though? I⦠donāt understand that partā¦ā
āBy evolving into the Stellar type, your kind will be exposed to its element. The natural biology of Eeveeās will adapt to this exposure, and therefore be able to evolve into the Stellar type from your energy alone. This, in turn, will cause other Pokemon to be exposed, just as they somewhat have already in Paldea. But the difference is, is that this way, itās not tied to the strange Terastallization phenomenon that will eventually end in due time.ā Ace explained.
āThe introduction of the Stellar type through Terastallization is quite dangerous. It was never supposed to be exposed like that, however, this way, the Stellar type will normalise, and become a true typing on Earth.ā
āI⦠I seeā¦ā it didnāt sound so bad. All they had to do was evolve, be around Eeveeās for a while, and that was it?
āIt would also be recommended that you bear young, as well.ā
Silvanās face went red. Of course God knew, āexāexcuse me?!ā
Ace chuckled a little at that, āah. A sore spot?ā
āIt-Itās just very personal!ā Silvan stammered, their back legs clenching together. They had thought about having kits in the future as a passing thought, but never gave it much thought beyond a fleeting moment here and there.
āAh yes. My son recently had his second child. I can understand what a choice it is to make.ā
Silvanās mouth seemed to just perpetually hit the floor around Mythicals. Did they have no sense of keeping information to themselves?! One of the Gods of the Universe had a baby?! WHAT?
āC-conā¦gratulationsā¦?ā they offered slowly, completely out of depth.
āThank you. Now,ā Ace became more sombre and serious, āno doubt you are wondering what your task is.ā
āY-yesā¦ā Silvan shook their head, and focused once more.
āYou must battle me,ā Ace said simply, ābut it will be a Legendary battle, not an ordinary one.ā
Silvan blanched at that - why is it they all wanted to fight them?! Did they give off the vibe of being a powerful opponent? Surely not! And what even was a Legendary Battle?!
āI see youāre confused,ā Ace continued, seeming pleased, āyou must use your senses in this fight. If you can get close enough to touch me, even just a tap, you win.ā
āMy⦠sensesā¦?ā Sight, sound, taste, touch, scent⦠Silvan stood up from where they had been sitting. It didnāt seem as daunting as a full on battle with attacks.Ā
If this was their path⦠if this was truly what they were destined for⦠they werenāt going to let a battle stop them! Silvan braced themselves by crouching, the crown on their head glimmering in the light, the Stellar Crystal alongside it.Ā
Ace glowed blue, and he reared up on his hind legs, and Silvan practically tasted the power radiating off of the God. They braced themselves as a wave of energy flew off of him, and they quickly rolled to the left to dodge it. But as they did, the floor beneath them seemed to turn to lava!
āVEEā!ā They shrieked and jumped out of the way of it as a meteor landed in its place, exploding on impact. Silvan kept dodging the strikes, but one hit true, sending them careening over the battlefield.Ā
Silvan didnāt have time to recover as Ace reared up on his hind legs once more, gathering a ball of yellow energy above his head. From it shot a powerful blast of 8 laser beams that all converged on one point - THEM!
Silvan jumped out of the way. Ace did not relent. Every time Silvan dodged, they fired another, over and over at them again. Silvan didnāt manage to dodge them all - the last one hit them hard.
āEIEEā!ā they slammed into the glowing stage, the edges of their vision were beginning to falter. Ace had made it seem like this would be easy, but it was far from it. They shouldāve known better than to think a battle with a God would be anything other than the hardest fight theyād ever have to fight!
Ace began to glow red. The entire field, except a circle around him, turned red. Silvan looked confused, and watched as Ace began to charge some kind of attack. They ran forward, and as they did, a surge of energy was chasing them far faster behind. Silvan bolted as fast as they could run, and it was with a jump and a scream that they landed within the āsafeā circle in the nick of time as the entire stage seemed to explode with energy.Ā
They skidded on the ground, and Ace had vanished as the energy did along with it. Silvan looked left and right swiftly, before a sharp ping sound made them whip around to the source of the noise.Ā
Before them, it was as though glass was breaking, but instead it was reality. Silvan had but a moment to spare before they darted out of the way as Ace came screaming out of it at a blistering speed.Ā
Puffing and panting, Silvan looked for where Ace had landed and found him, only to be shot in the face with a laser.
āVEEEEEEā!!ā their scream hit the air, and their vision around the edges turned black. Their body landed roughly on the glass, and their HP had dropped to half. While the āattacksā didnāt hurt like a traditional Pokemon move did, it still packed enough of a punch to disorientate them. More lasers followed - and Silvan couldnāt do anything else but continue to dodge the attacks.Ā
They were getting tired. Even with running around three different Pokemon regions and becoming rather fit, there was a limit. They were under levelled and they were hurt. Ace raised himself up once more as waves of blue energy pulsed out from him again, and meteors began to fly down. Silvan dodged them to the best of their ability, but they didnāt get the last one in time, and with a screech, Silvan was pelted back.
Their vision was in the red, now, their HP low. They struggled to get up as the field turned red again. They had to move - they had to get close - they had to! They scrambled to their feet and ran as fast as their four legs could take them.
But it wasnāt enough.
The burst of energy hit them HARD in the stomach, a heart wrenching scream erupting from their mouth, and they fell back onto the podium with a thump. They couldnāt move anymore.
Caine and Gangle go outside and touch grass. I was thinkin too hard about their Parallels as self-destructive āfailedā artists and this was the result.
Brad Bird once said that you canāt create the illusion of life if you havenāt actually lived one, and thatās a line I think about a lot around the Traumatizing Digital Circus. This comic was inspired by: the purpose of making your own art in a world where AI image generators can churn out endless content for you, the way 3D software makes it easy to create infinite spaces but hard to capture authentic hand-drawn human touches, the way all my college art teachers were skeptical of the studentsā desire to make anime-inspired stylized 3D visuals right up until it became the new trend in the animation industryā- and how easy it is to get so lost in the technical aspects of art & the consequences of failure that you lose sight of what art is even supposed to be for.
[also: a special thanks to the windows error message generator, this Blender grass tutorial, & all the different poets who wrote about grassā though Iāll let you guys figure out all the Tolkien/biblical/& poetry references.]
For me it'd be a tie between my Warrior of Light, Naraya, and her adopted son Jelana. (Both from ffxiv) (Jelana is on the left, Naraya on the right)
I don't collect much character merch, per se, so these two are just about all I have. Plenty of stuff, of course, but not much of it is for characters.
(The art for these blorbos was commissioned for me by @quins-makeshift-menagerie a while ago.)
