My friend has been trying to get me to read The Posterchildren for like 3 years now, and I’ve finally gotten into it. I’m about halfway through Origins and June is my favorite character. I absolutely love her attitude and her poster power is freaking awesome <3

Friend!! PLEASE believe me that I will be RUNNING to post to tumblr the second Retcons is ready for release. If you want early access, you can become a Patreon patron for as little as $1 a month. As of tomorrow’s update, I’ll have posted the first 60k of Retcons. Also, that’s just issues 9 and 10!! Retcons has been a long time coming, but it’s also going to be a beast. I will also be publishing a set of short stories that serve as a ramp-up to Retcons. All of them have already appeared on Patreon (and at least one will remain a Patreon exclusive because Spoilers), and they hint at some of the plot threads to expect from Retcons.

I've happy-ranted about this on twitter and discord, so you might've heard me gush already, but for those who have not: My new favorite thing is 4theWords. This writing app has been SUPER useful for me (to the point that I pounded out 40k last week using it and didn't feel like I was stretching/pushing to hit that word count). So, I often use names from stories when I’m doing worksheets bc it makes life simpler. Today, we had a few DC and Marvel references, and the excellent Posterchildren by @quipquipquip The kids had to rewrite the v formal, stilted dialogue to sound more natural or informal. I DIED at the gangsta Ernest Wright and the postscript of June’s response. I gave the kid a merit for making me giggle, despite the appalling lack of punctuation.

Absolutely! Retcons is coming has been the refrain for too long, but it’s a for real thing that is happening. If you’re really itching for content and don’t mind a serialized format, I’ve been uploading Retcons by scene on my Patreon (as well as spoilers, AUs, short stories, and assorted sundry). The Posterchildren

What is it: A self-published book series about a school for training the next generation of professional superheroes, its students and staff, and the ever-shifting climate of the world’s community of superheroes.

Why it’s on this list: The Posterchildren series has some of the best representation in terms of just sheer numbers of anything I’ve ever read. There are tons of queer characters, including but not limited to a lesbian speedster, a pansexual circus boy, and (in later stories) a badass trans woman secret agent who might have the coolest superpower I’ve ever seen. Not only is it great in terms of queer rep, but also in terms of disability rep, racial and ethnic diversity, and more.

Where can you find it: You can get ebook versions of The Posterchildren: Origins (the first book in the series), as well as the short stories called Timely Tale on gumroads or smashwords. Look, I love talking about The Posterchildren. It’s an extremely underrated gem of a series, and there’s so much about it that I adore that I always feel like I’m failing to do it justice. But I’ll do my best!

The Posterchildren is a great example of a story that is certainly a queer story, with a lot of queer characters, but with most of the romance being secondary to them as people. Which is lovely, because so often we’re told that’s not something a queer story is allowed to be. Each character is an individual, with their own story, and is treated as such regardless of their relationship status.
