realistic contemporary YA does not need to be boring
y’all this book I’m reading…there’s only been two scenes so far that did not involve the characters eating or drinking tea. I read some people commenting on authors’ obsession with describing food but I didn’t know it was really like this out here sometimes.
no shade but from a writer perspective as well as reader I’m wondering why the story is so limited to happening during and around mealtimes…I want more from this. that’s all.
“if you make the characters straight i bet an agent will like the story then”
how about no and never.
y’all I think I need to stop trying to get anything done this summer. I have queries out and things submitted that haven’t been rejected yet, and my wait time is essentially until mid September for most of it, which is when I’ll have more time again to sit and focus anyway. I’ve been planning stuff out though, every option I have, so at least I won’t be doing anything too hastily moving forward. I don’t know how to rest, but the universe is forcing me to. my work schedule is also up in the air until mid to late August so there’s that.
starting to realize that there are too many people who don’t know the difference between science fiction and speculative fiction which complicates things when lit mags seeking sci fi say (or someone else says) they’re looking for speculative stories 🙃🙃🙃
oops i queried again
Look what arrived today!
hahaha I’m just trying everything at this point submitting stuff to different publications and contests and such because I’d really just like a single win by summer’s end
Schmigadoon! has improved my mood tenfold
okay but like…I’m kind of mad rn. I finally started reading again solely for pleasure, and this book I just finished had the literal worst ending of a book I’ve ever read. there was no climax or resolution. there was so much build up to absolutely nothing. I hate that I’m mad but I really am and I’m not going to name the story’s title or author so please don’t ask me. it’s like the author was trying to be oh so mysterious and somehow profound in the absolute nothingness that was the ending, and I don’t trust this author and won’t pick up another one of their books. don’t really trust whoever published it either.
it’s actually so sad right now that I’m thinking about how getting something published will help pay for my cat’s medication
when I can’t afford to buy a book, I borrow it from my local library.
