[Update] - Race for Charity
Well, we're still here! Don't fret!
First of all, I need to kindly thank the Overclocker's Australia community for backing us and supporting this cause.
The good news is - we are still doing the race. This is a great cause with a great opportunity to really start something new and exciting.
We hit quite a number of hurdles:
1. Venue - this was resolved with thanks to some guidance from the 501st Legion Southern Cross Garrison.
2. Sponsors - Thanks to the Overclocker's Community, I was put in touch with Corsair Technologies who are not only able to help out with equipment and tech, but also fronting a highly advanced method of livestreaming in-house.
3. Project CARS - this was my most difficult aspect of the whole project. Project CARS had delayed their release date approx. one year ago and I had many difficulties getting into contact with them since planning this event. As you know, Project CARS is made by Slightly Mad Studios. This is their own game after a background of making car related games for other publishers over the years. As a result, they were impossible to contact. Social media contact, emails and even phone calls to London were met with a non-response. I can only put this down to just being busy.
4. Interest from other teams - we had a pretty decent enough response here. For all of you that have raised your hand to ask if they can help - thank you - I will definitely be contacting you in the coming weeks. We also have Gaming Nation UK who have previously completed an endurance race for charity themselves with an early version of Project CARS. They will be joining us as a competitor. Let's see if us Aussies can't knock the teacups from their hands. ;)
Because of the release date of Project CARS and the best availability of people who can participate (we well as the structure of the "charity" component, I am hereby advising that we are delaying the race events until March, 2015.
This will allow everyone who would want to participate have the chance to head off for some holidays and come back, but also buys us some time to tinker with our streaming tech, camera equipment, venue testing and donation/participation structure. I absolutely refuse to cancel this event. There is just too much interest. Those who are directly assisting me are also working full time (as am I), so the fact that they take the time to help with this whole event - I need to thank them and I will be personally over the coming months.
Please hang with us while we make the major structure change and will certainly be able to update more soon.
