This was a simple job, just stay in the temporal base until the team comes back or your team is needed for an emergency.
Or so you thought.
While refeeling some stationery, you could perceive that faint aroma of copal. In a sharp turn the source of the aroma revealed himself with a wide grin leaning forward towards you after noticing his existence.
“My… my… if isn’t my favorite Union lackey!”
His voice chimed with fake warmth.
It wasn’t unusual to get visits from Toland from time to time, after all he recently had a strange infatuation with you. In the eyes of other people it would be absolutely flattering, but in yours it was a major inconveniente.
“So what brings you here? I wouldn’t say that it’s artifacts to steal and smuggle, since this is more of a scouting mission… and I’ll assume you know that too”
This was stupid, you could lose your job, YOU COULD GET JAILED. And yet you humor him and his little game as he leans closer to your face, feeling the smoke slowly wrap around your hands that in a reflex held tighter the bunch of paper that was long gone as a memory behind your brain, since when did the supplies room was this small and warm???
“Aren’t you quite-“
“Hey! Is everything alright inside there?”
The knocks from Zhou Hong was your dream snapper, letting the gravity of the situation sink in. Like an automatic response your hands snapped back still holding the paper to then shove Toland’s frame into a corner of the room knocking some of the objects off the shelves.
Opening the door a bit, letting see some of the interior of the room but not allowing the comer were Toland now was against it te be seen
“Oh! Sorry! You scared me Zhou!”
A calmish smile showed as you shoved him the stack of paper into his hands surprising him in the act.
“No worries. Do you need help into picking some stuff u-“
“Do not worry about it I’ll just do it by myself”
You cut him off, slowly closing the door in an attempt to make him go away, as you did his younger flickered trying to catch the cent off the air, luckily for you they always passed it as some time of oil you use to calm down. Within time he took his leave, leaving you alone with Toland. Turning to see him it was clear the annoyance in his face after your last minute attempt to hide him.
“Sorry but it was necessary”
“At least you didn’t snitch on me…”
Both smiled softly. To that you started to re-stock the shelves, the feeling of smoke slowly warping around your waist before being lifted up and rested against Toland’s chest.
“I was going to invite you to eat, but I’m unsure if you’re free”

You could already feel Toland hovering over you as you exchanged text messages. To the obvious confirmation you felt him lift you up even more fully embracing your body before speeding out of the building.
