I’ve been saving up my treasure all October! I bought Resurrection a ridgeback scroll and bar gene. I put the accent on her because it’s lovely and I don’t have any other ridgies. It looks quite good on her so I think I’ll leave it on her for now. Not sure about the sunguard chest, though.

She shares a birthday with Rob Halford and is named after one of his songs.

I’m certainly going to be playing with this for a while, however what we have here are the initial sketches of my notion of ‘goblin shark’ ridgeback dragons. Essentially what I’ve figured, in this version of them, the nose on the males is cartilage so it’s stiff like a shark’s nose but isn’t solid bone (because long jutting solid bone like that = bad idea). The mandibles, both top and bottom, are fluctuating, meaning that they’re not fully attached to the actual skull itself. A complex network of muscle and cartilage holds the jaws to the skull, and likewise is there to snap all four outward with incredible speed.  These jaws would not be meant for crushing, but instead they’re there for sharp fast outward thrusts. This, coupled with the recurving teeth, are there to catch quick fish and meant to hang onto the slippery bodies until they can be drawn back and pulled well into the throat for consumption.  Biting during fights would be very dangerous, yet a very good strategic move. Dangerous for both parties because those teeth are sharp, made for piercing, and hanging on. Now couple this with the razor sharp scales on the ridgeback’s body, it’s a very effective way to use it’s body like a hellish mandolin slicer. This is also a risky move because if the opponent is thrashing wildly, those jaws could very well be dislocated, broken, or outright torn out due to the fact that the teeth hook and hold.  (More to come when I’m not tired, and when I put more thought/research into these guys and how this style of skull would work)

So, uh, I really love Ridgebacks. They’re my favourite Flight Rising dragon species.

Erebos and his lover, Nyx. They’re my two gorgeous circuit-gened ridgies. Erebos is highly protective of his mate, and Nyx can’t help but show some vanity to mingle with his behavior. Can’t wait to start painting these two! :>
