Trick or Treat!
(I was trying to put a picture of Sharkie in the ask but tumblr said no. Pretend a very large carp is requesting your treats or tricks.)

I need aid in answering one of THE burning questions of all time:
why do cicada killer (at least the eastern cicada killer) stings absolutely nerf your ability to metabolize alcohol. like, one beer making you dangerous to drive level nerfing. elsevier wants $300 to look at a pdf that MIGHT have this information and I refuse to pay them that kind of money.
I have no idea! I've never looked into it. But maybe one of my followers has read about it and can elaborate or link to a free article.
Apologies for bothering you but I have a weird question and I've had SO MUCH TROUBLE trying to find an actual complete copy of the ATU to reference.
Is the Galatea story anywhere on the Aarne-Thompson-Uther Index, or would it not have a placement?
I can't be sure of this myself but I find it more possible that it could have a more correct placement under Thompson's motif-index order rather than the ATU because the motif-index contemplates mythology more specifically and not solely folktales or specific religions, which is why some folklorists use both.
If we're talking about Galatea the Pygmalion statue come to life from Greek mythology (and not Galatea the Nereid or Galatea mother of Leucippus), if I had to place it somewhere in Thompson's motif-index, it'd probably be under A15.4: A being Mythology, A0-99 being Creator, A15 being Human Creator and A15.4 being Artisan as Creator. I think that fits pretty well. Here's the Creator section of the motif-index.
As for the ATU, the section about religion (Other Religious Tales 827 -849) doesn't really feel like the fit for Greek myths and the section about Supernatural or Enchanted Wife, Husband or Relative (400-459) doesn't really contemplate the option nearly as much as I feel like the motif-index does.
I don't know if this is helpful, I hope that it is somewhat, sorry that I can't do more! Maybe someone better suited than I can contribute with more stuff!
Bizarre question for worldbuilding: what kind of fungus would be best at interfacing with electronics? Whether that be actively picking up and transmitting signals or just wiring itself into a keyboard and manipulating it that way; it's a librarian, so I don't have to be picky. I was thinking a cordyceps, but if you have better ideas, I am all (wood) ears!
@specsthespectraldragon Honestly, I think any mycorrhizal fungus would work. The mycorrhizal network of fungal mycelium is already thought to function as a communication network among trees and other plants (though to what degree is debatable.) The signals in a mycorrhizae are chemical rather than electric; there's some evidence for plants sending electrical signals, but I believe that's largely between different parts of one plant rather than among multiple individuals.
Of course, you're working within a fictional setting, so feel free to mess about with this as much as you want. If your world's scientists have discovered that plants evolved ways to extend their electrical signalling capabilities to the mycorrhizae through the fungal mycelium, I think that would be a perfectly reasonable bit of science fiction to toss in there.
Good luck with your project; it sounds like a lot of fun!

I don't know how you'd feel about the rest of the book, I just started reading it, but I'm going to slide Paladin's Strength in your direction for the mention of domestic fowl-based magics. Only domesticated birds, though! But there is a peacock involved.
Haha nice!
