II. HISTORY
Born as the youngest of the two Johnson’s siblings, Maggie grew up alongside her older brother in a calm city in Colorado. Her parents had moved to The United States from Argentina before she was born, but their relationship didn’t have the happy ever after they dreamt with when they moved; Maggie’s mother went back to Argentina when she wasn’t older than three, becoming the job of her dad to raise her and her brother. Luckily, Nicholas Johnson took the job of being a good dad quite seriously; he gave both her and her brother Dylan a pretty happy childhood, with the help of his brother, Maggie’s uncle, who worked as the owner of a local radio.
Maggie spent most of her time after school in the booth with him, where she learnt the ropes of what would later became her passion. She loved everything that working on a radio entailed: from picking the music, handling the equipment or talking as the host. By the time she was twelve, Maggie was already lending her uncle a hand in the technical part of it, and ended up hosting herself after her seventeenth birthday. When her uncle fell ill, short after she turnt twenty-one, no one questioned how she became the one in charge of the radio station.
Maggie’s uncle died not too long after; a couple years later, her father followed suit. It was a sad moment for the Johnson brothers, but they weren’t allowed to drown in their grief for long, as the pandemic striked a couple of months later. Dylan always said that the old man knew what was coming, and died as to not slow them down. Maggie isn’t too sure about that.
For a while, they were okay. Since they didn’t live in a big city, they managed to fend for themselves by hunting food and staying clear of big populations. Maggie is not extremely physically fit nor particularly clever, which means that she survived mostly because of her brother, who knew how to use firearms and had the conviction to keep her safe. By the time resources finished in their city, they started heading West, after having heard from passing survivers was safer than where they were staying.
That is when things got out of control; After a couple of weeks travelling, an attack of infected forced Maggie and Dylan to lose each other. Not knowing where else to go, Maggie joined a group that she found in the road and followed them towards the Vegas’ safe zone, assuming that she would meet her brother there. Sadly, that wasn’t the case.
If Maggie continued to be able to survive, it was only because she was in a safe zone. Being fully aware of this, the young woman never believed she could do anything that was of use for the rest of the survivers. Her motto was to stay out of the way, to avoid being the cause of someone else’s demise. Maggie was definitely surprised upon finding that, actually, there was something she could help with; holding the communications with other safezones and survivors. Gladly taking the role of the one in charge of the radio, Maggie took the commitment to make up her lack of ability in other aspects of the survival and pour all her attention on the task at hand.
