Rafe sat with everything in silence for a few long minutes after Laurel declared she wouldn't leave. It turned his stomach and unsettled him more than anything had since finding Sasha. Anger he'd known, a terrible guilt that swallowed him whole and a sadness that drowned out any sense of light left in this shithole of a town. But fear? Fear hadn't encroached upon him for too long now. "Laurel," her name fell as if he knew he was already going to argue the point, "Take Heather and get out of this place." No matter what attachments she, or Heather seemed to have - they were the siblings of a murderer, that alone was enough to carry in a place that everyone knew your name. "Find somewhere that nobody knows you. The two of you could start over," he waved a hand out in front of him, directionless and flippant, "Start over."
"Shut the fuck up" She frowned as she shook her head, the blonde drunk from the glass in hand as she turned to face away from Rafe. She could feel the anger inside of her building rapidly, she just had a way of getting under her skin and doing it fast these days. "Are you incapable of not acting like a complete cunt for at least 24 hours? Have you tried it yet? Maybe you'd have some fucking friends if you tried it." A long exhale leaving her body as she attempted to calm herself down. "Trust me you'd already be dead if I was anything like him, in fact I'm pretty pissed he didn't get to you before he died."
Rafe didn't really know what it was, but the satisfaction that he got out of riling people around him up was almost entirely unmatched. Almost nothing felt better. "Interesting question," he noted with an air of superiority, musing a rather profound pout as he thought on it, "Truthfully, I've seen you give it a go every now and then, but you didn't manage all too well, so I didn't bother." Shrugging his shoulders haphazardly, he plasters a shit-eating grin upon his features - was he toying with her? Or hoping she'd snap? "Says she living with her piece of shit ex, or in her sisters' spare room." No doubt, Laurel would rip him one for stirring Heather up; nothing new. "It's not like he didn't have the opportunity. Guess he didn't want to try his luck - do you?"
"No" she quickly responded, "Not Remy and Luka anyway, I think the sick bastard snuck them in beforehand and they were already long gone. Carmen though she was definitely after. I don't understand it all, I don't understand why, they already had two was that not a big enough statement? They went and risked it all for a third on the night?" It was sick to think about, they were disgustingly confident in their abilities to set up not one, not two but three bodies to be found. They were confident enough to kill the third on the night. "We were so caught up in the party, the booze and the entertainment that we allowed them to do this once again."
Truly, Rafe hadn't really made up his mind about any of it yet. He didn't know if that was something that he wanted to do in the first place - what good was chasing a shadow? They'd been trying to for what felt like months now. "You've really thought about this, haven't you?" He almost laughed, a mirthless chuckle that felt more defeatist than anything. It wasn't like he could even move out of this shithole without finding himself in cuffs again. "That's what they wanted, maybe it's Tiff's parents this time around." A joke, he thinks.

Brandon might have had a bit too much to drink as he stood in the bar, swaying slightly from side to side, vision going in and out of focus. He couldn't recall drinking enough to cause this, but he always couldn't tell anyone exactly how much he had had to drink, so maybe this was of his own doing. Though, he was perfectly aware of who it was that his eyes landed on, looking the criminal up and down. He had been the person to find Sasha. Maybe he'd been the one to kill her, for all he knew. "People st-- people s-still say it was you, y'know... Th-that killed S-Sash..."
He might not have paid mind to Brandon as he turned in his direction, even after he opened his mouth. Just to further make it clear that he wasn't in the fucking mood. Mention of Sasha, however, drew fire in his eyes that flashed with a rousing distaste in the way people still looked at him while they talked about his deceased best friend. "Better hope I like what comes out of your mouth next, Harris." He said, bringing the bottle of beer to his lips - because fuck his god damn parole. "Think very carefully.."
Dakota sat bleary-eyed watching the tide of the lake push the blackened water towards her and then away again. In, out. In, out. She was doing her best to match her breathing to it in the hopes that focusing on the rhythm of her chest rising and falling would prevent it from caving in. She'd become so used to the feeling of anxiety and dread that swept over her before every callout, the panic at the idea that it could be her brother. She'd imagined every possible scenario, braced herself for it every time Yet now, it didn't feel real.
The blonde squinted to adjust her eyes to the sudden brightness that illuminated the night before her, but she didn't bother to turn and see who it belonged to. She didn't care. She almost hoped it was the shadow, coming to get her too. Take me too. I won't even try to fight. It was almost comical when she finally turned her head to see Rafe approaching. Once upon a time she'd been scared he would kill her, now he seemed like the least likely person to do so at the very moment she wished he would. "If you're looking for the gun, I left it in the car. It was a stupid idea anyway."
Quickly, she settled his concern - or at least, part of it. The fact that the gun he'd managed to get for her had been left behind made him breathe a little easier, but in truth, it didn't settle him entirely. And as he sat down beside her, Rafe was quick to realize that he was far more concerned about how she was, than what she might do. "I was just looking for you," he spoke quietly, admitting to the truth of what he was doing there at all. What would he have done exactly if he'd shown up and she had had the gun with her? Already, he knew more people than not within the town looked at him with accusation, the last thing he needed was Dakota being found - dead or alive, with a weapon that had his prints on it. Regardless of how legal it might have been. "I didn't want you to be alone right now."

𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐀𝐍 𝐔𝐍𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄𝐋𝐘 pair, some might say. however, rafe and laurel had been close since what felt like the dawn of time. rarely ever had there been one without the other -- and he was most certainly one of the few redeeming factors in hidehill's favor. as the days rolled on, the more people that died -- she found herself having less and less faith in her reasons for coming back, but with heather now living in her guest room and rafe standing directly in front of her, she found herself feeling a sense of ease that she desperately needed. with both of them, she felt understood. and after all that she had been through, she wasn't going to let that feeling go so easily.
❝ after that fucking shitshow -- i'm never drinking again. ❞ laurel muttered, knowing full well she was telling a bold-faced lie dripping in sarcasam. her brutal hangover the next morning was simply no match for the latest round of losses that racked murdertown, usa. cigarette dangling between her lips, she took the longest drag she could before releasing the smoke into the night air, hoping it would take the tension in her body with it. no such luck. ❝ i don't know how much longer i can take this shit, and i literally just got back. ❞
It didn't matter how many times he overheard someone else talking about the ways in which Luka, Remy and Carmen died, Rafe was still trying to process losing Sasha. It'd felt like months had passed, and at the same time, barely hours. The world just moved at a slower pace now and while he understood the shock of it all; he just couldn't register it just yet. "You're alone on that one, if you ask me, it's just another reason to drink more." Given, he knew Laurel wouldn't swear off the bottle any more than he ever would, he'd still humor her. "I do distinctly remember telling you not to come back," okay, maybe not distinctly, but he was sure that somewhere among their numerous late-night phone calls, "You should take Heather and get out of this place."

It didn't take long for Rafe to overhear a few whispers of where Dakota might have been that night. Nor did it take long for him to hook a leg over his bike and head toward Fig beach. Losing her brother was undoubtedly going to turn her world over, and admittedly, he finally held a flame to a second thought about getting her what she'd asked for. As his headlight illuminated the beach, he quickly spotted her silhouette and when he approached, some part of him thought about moving too close to an injured animal. "Kota," he started out slowly, rounding her a little on the wide side, if only so he could see what - or if she held anything within her hands. "It's just me."
"Don't tell me to fuck off in my own bar." He looked coldly at the other. "I never said I don't disagree that they should get their ass kicked, I'm saying that it's not going to be you. Not in here." It was hard for Austin to say that he agreed with Rafe about anything, especially since right now he hated the guy. He had never been a fan of him in the first place, but to know that he still had his way of worming himself back into Zehras life made him want Rafe to be the one that was about to get hit. "Now, what are you drinking? First one's on the house." He moved away from the table where the group of guys were once sitting and headed back to the bar counter. Stopping to a second to make sure that Rafe understood why he was getting the drink. "Because it's what Sasha would want, not because we're buddies or anything close to it."
It'd been instinctual, lashing out always had been for him. Proof of such lying in the way his life had panned out over the last few years but really, he was almost grateful that Austin had stepped in. If only to save him from another prison sentence - for the time being. "Yeah, we'll see." It certainly didn't take away the burning desire to hit something or someone. "I don't need your pity drink, Parker." He bit out quickly, steeling his gaze upon the other until mention of Sasha cracked against it. "For Sasha, then." He nodded, following the other back towards the bar. "Why would you want to anyway, right? Having friends in this place is becoming more of a vulnerability than anything... - and it's always been easier for you to hate me in the first place."
Stephanie knew that talking to Rafe about any of this was going to be a tough spot for the both of them. It was going to hurt him for her to even utter a word about Sasha even if it was just pure support on her end. "Are... are you fucking serious right now, Rafe?" she asked him, blinking in disbelief that he would even consider her being happy about someone literally being murdered. "Unlike you, I have a fucking heart, you prick. She didn't deserve the shit that happened to her and I just wanted to make sure you were alright." her tone was a lot colder than when she started the conversation. He could call her dumb, he could call her insecure, but insensitive to someone's death was where she drew the line in the sand.
Immediately, Rafe's back stiffened up. Any mention of Sasha that came from Steph had never ended well for him despite his every intention to assure his ex. "Yeah I'm fucking serious, Steph." How could he not be? After all the times he'd had to get through yet another one of her insecurities - each time she chose not to trust him enough, how could he imagine that mention of his not gone best friend would hold any sentiment of honesty. "No you didn't. You wanted to see what my reaction was, so you could continue to tell yourself that you were always right about me. Cut the bullshit, would you."

"I need you to be honest with me." She told him softly before meeting his eyes, Aylin had this feeling that he would. “Is it wrong to be upset over someone’s death because you thought you’d become friends when in reality he probably killed your cousin…” She trailed off before letting out a sigh. “Who happened to also be a murderer…” She looked down toward the floor. “I’ve got the worst luck it seems…it sounds so stupid when I say it out loud.” It’d become very common that the people she cared for turned out to be someone else in disguise, people she couldn’t recognize as they were described in newspaper headlines, but how was supposed to turn her feelings off and not care? “Sorry, Rafe, I didn’t mean to come over and unload all of this on you.” The brunette let out a sigh, all of the latest news had been bringing up feelings she'd been trying to bury. She knew he must of been hurting too, the recent losses just seemed to keep piling up as the days went by. "I'm sorry, I've been so wrapped up in me and Charlie kicked me out...I forgot to ask about you. How are you?"
Word vomit was something he was pretty used to by now - Sasha used to lose her cool and fall into it all the time. The reminder ached, but he refused to let anyone see just how cut up he was about it. His stoic demeanor remained, just like the desire to rain hell down upon this fucking town. "I mean, are you upset that he was a killer or that he's dead?" It didn't matter to him either way; though he'd once called Harry a friend, there was something off about him - something that he hadn't noticed until his birthday party. "You and everyone else in this town, not really sure luck exists in this place anymore." If it did, it was slipping between everyone's fingertips. "Wait, Charlie kicked you out? Now? With all this shit happening?" It angered him a little more - not that he'd ever liked the man, "Don't worry about me."

"How do three wind up in the hotel rooms and nobody notices? Like, not one single person saw the fucker taking bodies into rooms and setting them up into freaky fuckin' scenes to be found?" Dilara was struggling to wrap her head around the whole situation. The only one of the three she really knew was Carmen, her neighbour who she got along with and often borrowed each others things. She just didn't understand how the shadow had time to set up the bodies like they did.
"You think whoever did this, killed them outside of the rooms and dragged their mutilated bodies through the corridors?" He asked, a little bewildered that that seemed to be the conclusion that Dilara had settled on. Shaking his head, Rafe frowned as he thought on it, quietly sipping at the light beer in his hand. "Nobody was paying attention to shit downstairs, beyond that, that sick bastard could do whatever they wanted. It's a sleight of hand - they counted on everyone watching what was happening in the ballroom. And it fucking worked."

Closer and closer the eye of the law had looked at him. Each time his parole office checked in, it felt more like an interrogation than anything else. His only saving grace was that he'd clearly done nothing - they'd had nothing. Which really only told Rafe that they had no fucking clue what they were dealing with, which wasn't exactly a relief. Even still, he could manage a drink or two without it costing him everything and he knew quickly by the way any arid attention he drew started to boil rage beneath the surface, "Don't," he started as Brandon stumbled over his words to mention the rumors that just wouldn't fucking die, "I'd think really fucking hard on what you're about to say to me, Harris."

"'Sup, psycho." Rafe had been completely unable to turn away from the opportunity when he'd finally caught Heather standing on her own. Was it necessary? Absolutely the fuck not, but he'd never been too hard-pressed to push his luck at almost every damn turn. But, admittedly, he was still furious that she'd thought to accuse him of murdering Sasha. His hand fell against her shoulder as he rounded her from behind, dipping low to speak against the shell of her ear as he snatched the champagne flute in her hand, "How long 'till your next meltdown? I think it'd be best if we pre-warned everyone, just in case you decide to take a page from your brothers' book."
