Some unfortunate news.

Yesterday I was looking over what’s left to do, and found that half of the songs from the album are now missing their audio files and/or the entire project file. This probably has something to do with Dropbox sync, but I didn’t catch it early enough. The point is I don’t believe there is any way to get them back. 

What does this mean? I’m not going to abandon the tracks forever. However, I am burned out on these affected songs and don’t want to put re-recording them ahead of making new music. 

So here’s what I’m going to do. Little Pictures Vol. 1 is probably going to be five songs. These are, in no particular order:

Please, Osiris

Pluto

Dandelions

Golden Touch

A lot of the more bouncy, energetic tracks were the ones affected, so this is going to be a lower-key affair. As such, I feel poised to swing hard in the other direction as soon as this is done.

Hopefully, more Little Pictures EPs can be a thing one day, but I really need to move on from this project just so I can enjoy making music again.

Another review.

A friend of mine, Jen Rafanan (a.k.a. amillionwattsofsound), reviewed my EP a while back, and I never got around to posting about it. That's simply no good. No good at all, I say! So here it is. Thanks for the kind words, Jen! 

In other news, my EP is finally up on Spotify. They took much longer than the other vendors, but it's there now, and I think we can all agree that that's basically a good thing. All five of us.

If you're wondering what the deal is with new music, I'll answer the best I can: 

I just moved in with some friends, and I will be setting up shop with a little studio space soon, as well as upgrading equipment and software. I have one recording project I need to finish producing for a friend, but that won't stop me from constantly writing new demos and trying to figure out what to do next. 

I feel as if I could do anything - it's not like I have a large audience with expectations to violate - but having that freedom also means it can be difficult to choose focus. 

Anyway, I'll try to get back to work.

First Review! Ever!

So, a little while ago, I emailed some links of my stuff to some people who cover music in Athens. One of them has now posted a review, making this the first critical response to my EP! You can find it here.

Now what?

Well! Time certainly flies when you're having fun. Or when you're in college. I've been working on ways to promote my music, such as submitting to Athens music blogs and to the offices of local papers like Flagpole and The Red & Black. I'm also going to send out copies to a few college radio stations in Georgia (WUOG first, of course) that might consider playing little old me. Oh! And I need to remember to put this stuff on iTunes sooner or later.

I'm always trying to write more/better music, so I have a small collection of finished and unfinished demos to which I am constantly adding. Now I just have to figure out how to organize and finish some of these songs to make another EP or album. Maybe if I make my next release as my first full album, it won't feel like such a sophomore situation. The pressure's on, even if it's only in my head...

Thoughts on the EP.

I took a long time writing and recording these songs. Even after I was completely finished, they were sitting around on my hard drive in a sort of "incubation". Except that they weren't incubating; I was just stalling.

This music wasn't all written together. It just accumulated until I decided I was ready to put some of my demos out there. These are the songs that seemed to fit together most coherently, so I moved forward with getting them from demo to finished product.

After an unfortunate data loss incident at a friend's studio, I decided to do everything on my own: the recordings, the seqeuncing, and the performances. So this time, I holed up in my house for a while. My friends stopped calling; the yard got unruly; my beard got really long. (These things weren't such a big change, actually.) I wrote the last song to end the EP after I realized I had assembled a sort of narrative. I spent a ton of time tweaking transitions until the tracks fit between each other comfortably, trying to learn how to mix and master by trial and error (and with the help of internet FAQs). It was, basically, a crash course in writing and recording the most professional music I had ever produced. Although it took way too long, I'm glad I did it, and I'm glad I have the chance to share it. Yay Internet!

Music!

I've worked up some cover art, so now the EP can go up on the site. This music site will have music on it now! You can download it if you want, but you can also just stream it. I'm going to explore methods of e-commercing this thing so that if some people would like to spend a few bucks on it, they can, but I'd really just like ears on the audio. Enjoy!

Oh, hello!

Hi there, internet! This is my first post! I'm just working on my website now. There's a banner with the band name up there on the top - that's nice, right? It's good to have a banner. Especially one with the band name on it, as opposed to some other band name. That would just be embarassing.

Next up: actually posting the music. Before that: concocting an album cover. Tasks, you await me.
