The two girls blinked, almost perplexed. Neither girl had a visable mask of their own, it was odd seeing otherâs with one. In a way, it made them wonder why they didnât have one, was it just a design? Or was there a functional reason they werenât modified to have one?
âOkay. We will not⊠poke.â their voices sounded almost mechanical, as if simply repeating the given command. âYour mask, does it have a functional purpose?â
          Cocking a brow at the girls, Nelliel watched them for a moment longer before she sighed and dropped the near irritated expression from her features. Once there was confirmation they wouldnât be going near her mask was given, she seemed to relax entirely. Given the current state of it, it was understandable that sheâd be wary. Especially of those relative to Szayel. Haze orbs peered at them for a moment longer before she looked away at their question. âI donât see any possible function for it beyond the equivalence of a container. It serves no purpose beyond existing as an extended limb.â
Her eyes shifted, looking upon the two girls once more before she shook her head. âYouâre by no means obligated to be so formal. So long as you stray from touching my mask, itâs fine. Do you have any reason for straying from his lab?â
The two girls pondered for a moment as they listened to Nel state that the mask had no functional purpose outside of being an extended limb. Maybe Szayell thought it would have been useless to give them such a limit? Typically they never questioned his motives, after all, he said that he was giving them a better life.
"Formal?" Kyna asked. "We don't know how to do such a thing."
"The reason he gave was to... Explore, but we are unsure of what he is wanting us to find or what information to gather for when we return." The oldest sister, Akida spoke. Both girls spoke in a command like, almost monotonous voice. "We figured that we could have brought back information... About the mask others have yet we lack."

             âIf you could please refrain from poking the mask, Iâd be ever so grateful.â Well, none could say she wasnât blunt, nor sarcastic. Glowering at the other, she came fairly close to actually lashing her arm out to smack the assaulting hand away, but found her self control to be rather restraining in that right. Even though she was considered docile, her mask was not an object to be touched under any circumstances. Very very few people were even allowed to go near it in any case.
