This rendition of my photo is modernized in many ways.

1. the doll held in the picture is african-american and representation of this community is growing and becoming more prevalent in our culture. 

2) the flag is now on her phone. technology is a part of our lives that cannot be removed and has been incoorperated to even the smallest of activities 

3) lastly the subject of the photo is a girl. female power has become a large movement in our society that no one can ignore women are rising above and making themselves heard

This photo has no title and was taken in 1959. It represents post-Civil War families that were loyal to the South. The doll represents homes that were left behind and that families would just pick up and leave, leaving things like dolls behind. The trash on the floors show the house’s dishevelment and lack of inhabitants. This was something that was going to happen to the people whether they liked it or not because it was happening for the better.

Most of my book Meatyard’s work was done on family outings to abandoned farms and houses.

I was born on May 15, 1925 in Normal, Illinois and moved to Kentucky after marrying my wife Madelyn McKinney.
