Relief quickly washed over him, and it made sense as soon as he was in front of Gaby and the food truck as to why they had both headed this direction. Derek and then him in pursuit. Gaby was a sucker and would apparently safeguard his little brother when the grown adult was having a meltdown. The amount of sympathy Jeremy held for Derek was slowly dwindling. Theyâd all been dealt a hard blow by losing their parents but by now, well, it was more of a crutch to the youngest Lincoln. âGaby, I appreciate that youâve got a big heart and all, but⌠a beer and food? Heâs just mooching off you, you know? Taking advantageâŚâ Same as he did at FishâNâChadwick, helping himself to whatever he wanted without a thought to the fact that somebody had to pay for it. Something relatable to a lopsided smile appeared at the way she protected Derek. It was somewhat endearing. âSeriously?â A groan escaped him as Jeremy ran his large hand down his face. âAlright, yeah⌠please. You think maybe I could get a beer while I wait?â Pulling some cash from his pocket, he placed twenty-five down to pay for his and Derekâs.

Gaby wasnât sure the exact details of why Jeremy and Derek were fighting or what theyâd gone through. She knew that they had lost a parent and that was enough to tug at her heartstrings. As always, Gaby was quick to try and rectify his tormented mood. It was the least she could do. So when Jeremy made it seem that it was Derek whoâd come to find her with the hope of getting a beer and food, she was quick to deny those claims. In fact, she took on a whole defensive stance with her hands on her hips. âNo, I offered it to him when I saw him. He just needed some time to calm down. I would have done the same for you.â Or anyone else for that matter. âOf course I can get you a beer.â With a wink, the petite brunette turned and headed inside to grab two beers. Upon her return, she scoffed and handed one can as well as his money back to him. âDonât even try it. You know better than that.â They both worked hard in the food business and she liked to show her appreciation through free food. âPlease, Jer â take it.â
