FAQ

Q: What is this blog?

A: Everyone enjoys talking about their creations, though it's hard to find an environment to freely do so. This blog strives to give creators a chance to talk about their projects. It's intended as a celebration of creation and sharing - and an opportunity to FINALLY write those random ideas down!

Q: How do I get questions???

A: Simple!

1.) Find one of my summoning posts: this one is for worldbuilding-focused questions (UNDER CONSTRUCTION), while this one is for character-focused questions!

2.) REBLOG the post using whichever account you would like a question sent to! This way, when I go through the notes to find people to send questions to, I will see your blog!

3.) Wait! It might take me a while to get to you! I usually send asks once a day, although I am prone to unannounced, sudden hiatuses. If you aren't getting an ask - it's me, not you.

Q: I didn't reblog either of the summoning posts - why did I get an ask?

A: When I run out of people to ask questions, I look for other people who might appreciate a surprise question! There is no pressure to answer any question, especially one you did not ask for. Do with the question what you will!

Q(?): I would like another question!

A: Of course! I am more than happy to send as many questions as you'd like! Just reblog one of the summoning posts again, and I'll send another!

☆☆☆ Do note that this blog is run by one person, and each ask is sent out by hand. As I said, I'm more than willing to send as many questions as one would like, but it will take time. Be patient with me! ☆☆☆

Q(??): I don't know how to answer my question!

A: Don't stress about it! My questions are not homework assignments - if answering the question does not spark joy in you, then don't answer! The goal of this blog is to encourage people to think about their creations and write down their thoughts. Answer the question with an essay or a sentence, answer the whole question or just a part, write down the thoughts that the question creates - even if they don't answer the question itself! It's a celebration of creation, not a chore. Delete the ask without guilt and give one of the summoning posts another reblog if you'd like a fresh question!

A: I have a tome of character questions that I have built up over time! Those can be found here:

Those questions are free to be used however one may wish! Share them, answer them - as long as they are being used to bring happiness, I will be happy too.

What’s your character's full name? Is there a story behind their name (either in-universe or OOC)? Does their name have any meaning?

YAY hello!

LOL none of my OCs have full names because I'm not big brained enough for that... I think Carrion's the closest - his full title is the Carrion Bladewitch which is what other Arisen and Pawns called him when they found him on the Isle. He was often found eating carrion for self-sustenance, and is a Magick Archer so that's his title. When his Arisen died on the Isle he forgot his name, but he doesn't miss it because he was mistreated by his Arisen anyway.

Out of universe I called him Carrion because at first I pictured him wearing the Carrion mantle but I never got it (he wears the Grave mantle in-game and I eventually adopted that for his design lol). Bladewitch because he wore the Adept's Hat which is a fancy witch's hat + I was dagger-heavy in his playthrough.

Maybe I'll do him justice and give him a proper name in DD2 that doesn't mean a rotting animal corpse :')

What are your character's biggest regrets? Why do they regret this? How have these regrets shaped their actions?

Let's do Zahara for this one!

Currently, Zahara's biggest regret is joining the Organization. As a young girl running away from a small town, it seemed like the best option as it gave her access to things she never could have imagined when she was a child.

As an adult, she's come to realize it's corrupt and dangerous, and regrets ever joining in the first place (even if it did introduce her to her lovely wives and give her three wonderful children). Hence why she and her family have run away to Mystic.

Right now, she's continuing to train and remaining vigilant for the day the Organization comes after her (or her family). Despite knowing Mystic's wards are impenetrable to the Organization, she's still scared of that changing.

What is your character's very niche topic of interest they researched everything about? Would they give a powerpoint presentation about it when asked to?

Not quite niche, but Emma has had a special interest in birds for as long as he can remember. That interest went from her just trying to mimic the local birdsong to actually learning about taxonomy and identification.

She would not give a powerpoint presentation about it because it would be impossibly long because of how many fucking birds there are, and he Does Not Have The Stamina to give an impossibly long presentation

also she doesnt have access to a computer or anything to make a powerpoint.

Oh! What a surprise! Thank you for asking! Let's see here... We'll go with Capitan Daisy Hacker.

1.) Daisy, reaping the benefits that genetic engineering 500 years in the future provides, is intimidatingly perfect - in an unsettling, uncanny way. Her teeth are a little too straight, her eyes a little too bright. She's tall and thin, elfish in proportion. Her chin tapers to a point, and her cheekbones are diamond-sharp. Her frail looks betray the strength that genetically reinforced muscles and bone grant her. From her looks, not many even inside of the Ascendency would guess that she's nearing her third century of life.

As for her psychological characteristics, she's ruthless in her beliefs, entirely uncompromising in her words and actions. The world is cleanly separated into black and white, us and them. To those who she takes responsibility for, she's stern but ultimately very caring. In these situations, she's nurturing, kind, and supportive. Her presence commands fierce loyalty from her crew. To those outside of the Ascendency, or to those she deems unworthy of her care, she's cold as the void of space. As xenophobia is a large part of Ascendency society, this flaw is expected and supported. Her unyielding moral code, loyalty to the Ascendency, nurturing nature, and past military service made her a top candidate for the Leviathan program.

Deep inside, where even she dare not tread, she's both listless and restless. There's a hole in her soul, one that she's spent all of her life trying to fill. From loving to hating, throwing herself into everything expected of her and even beyond, treating life as something that can be won - something she MUST win. She's very good at hiding this side of herself - she used to be quite bad at it, but she's had plenty of time to stuff it deep down inside. It still hasn't gone away, though. Late at night, with nothing but the hum of the Moon Waltz engines to accompany her, she'll stare at the ceiling of her cabin as the emptiness tries, once again, to claw its way out of her chest...

2.) She's in an original work! She's lost her husband and watched her kids grow up and grow distant from her. Being bonded to a Leviathan brought her a feeling of stability and pupose that she'd been craving for so very long. Once the Moon Waltz reached the growth milestone necessary to be declared space-worthy, Daisy had looked forward to the changes that being the captain of a Leviathan would entail. No one could've predicted the sudden energy surge within the colony ship they were escorting, nor could they have anticipated being exiled from the Ascendency after saving tens of thousands of lives.

Set adrift amongst the stars, Daisy, her crew, and the Moon Waltz itself struggle to support themselves. Eventually, to Daisy's disgust, they lower themselves to accepting charter contracts from old-earth humans and aliens alike. There, they meet a pair of Ke'orn brothers with deep pockets and an intriguing goal - to permanently rip the fabric of space-time asunder and create the universe's first sustainable wormhole...

3.) Although she'd never admit it, Daisy lacked purpose. Throughout her entire life, she'd find one thing or another to completely pour herself into. Her education, then her job, then her husband, then their kids, then the grandkids - and eventually it would all drift away. Perhaps it was a side effect of having such a long life, she'd tell herself. Nothing outlived her passion, her need to give. It was like trying to fill a bucket full of holes - nothing would ever be enough. Her desperate need to do something at all times would bleed her dry, yet she refused to take a step back and assess why nothing ever felt like enough. At the beginning of the story, she's back at the start of this vicious cycle. She's bonded to the Moon Waltz, ready to take on the stars, to serve the Ascendency in a way that would define her existence. Finally, she'd found something that made her feel whole...

...and it all falls apart, as it always does, because the problem isn't with everything else. It's always been HER.

During the story, she ironically gets what she wants. There's no time to focus on the hole in her chest when the fate of the universe depends on her actions. After her crew's encounter with the Disciples of the Howling Void, it's clear that there's something very wrong, that the clues they'd stumbled across must be pointing to the same thing. As these seemingly random threads rapidly converge, the survival of her crew, the Ascendency, and the universe at large are all that matter to her. Here's her opportunity to finally fulfill herself, and she comes to hate herself for ever wishing for the chance.

4.) Yes, absolutely. Her position of captain of a Leviathan class bioship wasn't just given to her. She has nearly a century and a half of military experience under her belt, having gone through extensive training and survived some terrible situations. Despite her faults, she's got the intelligence, resourcefulness, and (most of the time) drive to survive.

Besides, as long as the Moon Waltz is intact, she'd never be alone. There would always be someone to rescue her. It would always know exactly where she was, her status, and her thoughts. However... if the Moon Waltz is the plane in this situation, and if the Moon Waltz had succumbed to its injuries... Beyond the well-being of her crew, it's unlikely that she would wish for herself to survive in the first place.

What’s your character's temper like? Are they easily set off or endlessly patient? Somewhere in between? Is there a reason they’re like that?

OMG HI!

Chhaya used to be constantly defensive as a first response, as if everyone was a threat to her. So yeah, she got angry easily...but she's working on it. Sometimes, she manages to calm her nerves and act differently. Sometimes. The reason is simple: she has a lot of repressed emotions. Regrets, helplessness, sadness... and also, it is an act of rebellion. Aren't ladies supposed to be sweet and nice all the time? In response, she chooses to be harsh, uncomfortable, and resolve with that emotion she feels. Deep down, she is terrified and dying to be accepted. But it's been part of her narrative arc to be able to learn this, and show the most vulnerable side of her.

What is an unforgivable action in your character's eyes? Why do they consider it to be unforgivable? Have they ever had to deal with someone they know committing this action? If so, what did they do?

Nephthylia doesn’t really have a strong moral center, running a black market faerie bottling business. But one thing she would find unforgivable is putting the operation or anyone involved in jeopardy.

At the end of the day, all the Neopets under her care are driven by revenge, mainly against the faeries. A crime family is still a family, ya know?

She’s never had to directly deal with anyone who’s done this. She’s the head of the operation after all. She’s trained the Neopets in her care to handle these problems themselves, with efficiency and discretion.

A bouncer to remove threats from the safe house,

A spy to sow discord through espionage,

An advertiser to remove competition,

A smuggler to move product beyond legal limits,

A hunter to track down meddlesome faeries,

And a witch that manages all the other members.
