Ranma Substitutes Part 2: Kaito Kid
Do you like Yamaguchi Kappei’s performance as tsundere dork with an ego the size of a small country Saotome Ranma? Then you might just like his performance of tsundere dork with an ego the size of a small country Kuroba Kaito.
Magic Kaito might have a bit less in common with Ranma 1/2 as a show, but the main romance of Kaito and Aoko runs on major Rankane energies, and Kaito just... is totally Ranma, but an expert burglar and magician rather than martial artist (and... honestly, pretty good thief). Seriously... can’t skate. Major phobia of a common animal. Loves ice cream.
And prone to using his mastery of disguises to dress up like a cute girl.
Bonus: if you find you really like it, well, the show’s connected to Detective Conan, which is pushing 900 episodes these days, so... that could keep you busy a long while.
Ranma Substitutes Part 1: Kimagure Orange Road
Opening with the conventional option. If what you loved about Ranma was the romcom plots, martial arts, 80s/90s aesthetic, and supernatural hijinks, then Kimagure Orange Road (KOR) might interest you.
The main love interests include a tsundere martial artist gal, and a glompy and very affectionate ball of sunshine. You’ve got a grumpy martial artist disaster boy frequently trying to challenge the main character. There’s strange magical artifacts about. And a good number of psychic hijinks. And, perhaps the strongest draw for Ranma fans: the main character looks almost identical to boy mode Ranma, just no pigtail and a more civillian fashion sense.
Worth noting that there are definitely moments where it shows it’s a product of the 80s, but it’s mostly pretty soft and innocent.
I absolutely love
The proportions in the Ranma ½ art style. Like yes, PLEASE. Make me tall and basically all legs immediately.
update: sorry for not being active for the past month, my personal life has been pretty busy lately.
What are your opinions on Ryoga :O??
I love Ryoga as a character, and the fights between he and Ranma are badass. Not a fan of Ryoga x Ranma tho
To every follower I have, I love ya!
